Job Title: Teacher Assistant
Reports To: Lead Teacher
Classification: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Monday to Friday: 7:30am – 4:30pm
(some weekends and evenings as needed)
Summary: The Teacher Assistant is responsible for supporting the Lead
Teacher in creating a nurturing and safe learning environment for young children
(3 to 5 years old).
Under the supervision of the Lead Teacher, the Teacher Assistant provides
classroom activities, assignments and /or material for the purpose of supporting
and reinforcing classroom objectives; The Teacher Assistant implements
instructional’ s program and lesson plan, (reading, math, science technology,
etc.) for the purpose of reinforcing learning concepts. The Teacher Assistant
helps facilitate daily learning activities and routines, especially nutritional and
physical activities.
Essential Duties:
- Forms and maintains nurturing relationships with children
- Sets up materials and equipment to help prepare lessons.
- Provides support and reinforcement for teacher and lessons.
- Gives one-on-one or small group instruction and lesson review.
- Provides daily nutritional and physical activities to develop motor skills and
physical development among younger children as well proper exercise
and eating habits Models activities for the children such as Obstacle
Course, Balance Shuffle, Jumping Hoop Race, What’s On your Plate,
Setting the Table and more.
- Utilizes the edible garden as teachable nutrition resource for the children
- Creates preschool sports activities which include running, throwing,
- Creates preschool art activities which include Sensory Dough, Colorful
- Creates preschool music activities which include musical paintings, put on
a talent show, teach basic on music instruments with Drums, Xylophones
and Glockenspiels, Loog Guitar, Handbells, Piano, and Kalimba. Start a
family (or classroom) band, among others.
- Creates preschool science activities which include Follow the weather,
through visual sights, among others.
- Supports the Lead teacher as needed.
- Responsible to record progress of children through written observations,
- Assists Lead Teacher in facilitating daily learning activities in a variety of
- Collaborates and interact effectively with parents and staff members
- Assists the Lead Teacher to create interesting learning centers that
promote active learning for the purpose of improving the quality of student
outcomes.
- Prepares for the day’s activities and transitions between activities
- Engages children in literacy activities and conversations throughout the
- Model conversations, manners, clean-up activities, listening, and everyday
interactions for the purpose of demonstration appropriate social behavior
in a culturally sensitive manner.
- Establishes strategies to work with children of differing
- Reinforces positive behavior with positive behavior teaching techniques
- Monitors student’s daily schedule and behavior plan (e.g., class schedule,
toileting, medication, appetite, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe a
positive learning environment.
- Responds to emergencies following established procedures (e.g., injured
- Reports accidents and incidents to administration
- Keeps track of inventory of classroom materials and supplies and inform
the Lead Teacher when supplies and equipment are needed for the
program.
- Retains an accurate count of the children at all the time.
- Keeps confidentially of all children records.
- Engages in professional development activities (at least one per quarter).
- Ensures that classroom is always in compliance with Early Education Care
Health & Safety standards; and maintain equipment, toys, and materials of
the classroom clean and organize.
- Assists the Lead Teacher in maintaining the Child Care Licensing
standards.
- Responsible for ensuring that any physical facility issues are reported to

- CDA Certificate
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with young children in a
- The candidate must have 45 hours of Child Care Licensing training
- Minimum of 10 clock hours of training each year (must be completed

- The Preschool Teacher Assistant may be lifting and carrying children and
equipment and may spend time sitting on the floor or child sized furniture
as well as standing for long periods of time and moving around the
classroom and playground area.
- Punctuality for work, dressed appropriately in assigned HUF’s Preschool
Preferred Qualifications (education, experience, skills)
- One year of experience working with young children in a group setting
- Matriculated in a state approved college or university working towards an
- AID/CPR certificate
- Early childhood associate
