PROGRAM: The fulltime & part-time members of the VT Youth Development Corps AmeriCorps State Program (VYDC) implement diverse youth initiatives, fostering positive development & building resilience to help youth avoid opioid misuse & other unhealthy behaviors, transcend the effects of COVID-19, and the gain academic, social, & job skills needed to thrive. Website: VermontYouthAmeriCorps.org SITE: Common Roots connects farmers, educators, youth, and community members to build a sustainable future through food and land stewardship education. By collectively growing food for our programs and food shelves, we celebrate the soil and soul of community. Our regenerative farming practices provide food and soil security nurturing our common roots. Programs include the Farmstand Program, Food Shelf Program; Farm to School Program; Farm to Go Afterschool Program; Gathering on the Land Program; Fieldtrips; and Land Stewardship. COVID-19: During pandemic, as families were struggling, we went from serving 120 families to currently more than 850 families. We will continue to increase food production to be able to serve more families and individuals. Location: South Burlington, VT



Member Duties : VYDC-Common Roots Food Production AmeriCorps Member increases food production and availability. The member expands orchards by planting other fruits, tending orchards, and participating in harvesting. The member boosts kitchen food production for the Farmstand and 2 local Food Shelves, develops and implements weekly food lessons to increase nutrition knowledge, and creates recipes for participants. The member’s service increases fruit varieties and house-made products available to families and seniors at our Farmstand at the Food Shelf. Travel: Reliable private transportation to get to farm and orchard. Minimum age 17, with parent/guardian permission. Send cover letter, resume, and contact information for 2 references.
