SUMMARY:

Oversee work crews to ensure construction, repair and maintenance of water systems are completed. This includes operating various types of equipment and other technical tasks that are needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Arkansas driver’s license
  • Minimum of one-year experience operating a backhoe, Trackhoe and front loader equipment
  • Minimum of two years water construction experience, preferred not required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Clean, repair, inspect and maintain water distribution systems to include the use of all hand and power tools such as shovels, drills, generators, and portable pumps, compressors and related equipment.
  • Assemble materials needed for the crew’s work each day.
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment including a hard hat, safety vest, steel-toe boots, and safety glasses.
  • Oversee the placement of traffic warning signs and barricades of water replacement construction cites.
  • Ability to operate equipment in close confines.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely when digging around live gas lines, phone lines and all other utilities.
  • Supervise, direct and assist skilled workers on the maintenance of the distribution systems.
  • Perform physical labor including digging, lifting, loading and unloading equipment, installing water pipes, etc.
  • Contact Arkansas One Call to locate other utilities and mark area for identification.
  • Accept “On-Call” duties during nights, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Investigate and document areas throughout the distribution system in need of attention or repair.
  • Maintain tools, vehicles and work areas in a neat, organized and operational fashion.
  • Maintenance work will require driving a utility vehicle at various locations such as the maintenance facility and water tanks locations.
  • Ensure all utility equipment is in good operating condition and appearance.
  • Assist with any emergency that may occur on or off duty pertaining to equipment or personnel.
  • Enforce work and safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Assists in barricading excavation sites which may range from 4 feet to 20 feet deep. Must follow safety guidelines for trench safety.
  • Received Competent Persons training
  • Supervise and assist confined space entry procedures to include the use of a harness and accompanying equipment such as the use of a self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Must understand verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Safely operate vehicles and equipment and keep vehicles clean and organized.
  • Perform routine inspections of vehicles daily.
  • Perform construction inspections of new water and/or sewer pipeline installations, verify compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Document work performed.
  • Perform additional duties or projects as assigned
