Official Position Description:
Serves as lead worker (e.g., provides work direction & training) over lower level welder in all phases of welding (e.g., cutting, soldering, brazing & tempering metals). Operates various welding & related equipment (e.g., acetylene torch, electric arc welder) to heat & shape metals, lay out, cut & fit materials for welds. Welds machinery, equipment, waterlines, steam lines & or bridge structures & makes needed repairs. Performs routine maintenance. Fabricates parts for rolling stock, machinery, equipment & or bridge structures.
Performs special welding projects assigned by supervisor. Completes daily timecards. Orders & or picks up materials; maintains inventory. Assist in planning work schedules. Maintains clean & orderly work area (e.g., tools, equipment).
18 mos. trg. or 18 mos. exp. in welding & use of related equipment; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in blueprint reading; formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions & percentages.
-Or 6 mos. exp. as Welder 1, 52321.
-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
Knowledge of welding technology; blueprint reading; bookkeeping*; inventory control*; employee training & development*; federal & professional welding regulations, policies & procedures (e.g., American Welding Society safety standards; OSHA); state/departmental/agency regulations, policies, procedures*; addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions & percentages. Skill in welding; welding & related equipment operation (e.g., acetylene torch, electric arc welder, drill press, lathe, grinder). Ability to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions; deal with problems involving several variables within familiar context; stand, walk, bend continuously; lift between 10-100 lbs. repeatedly; move limbs/fingers easily to perform manual functions repeatedly; move whole body in continuous or heavy labor.

This position is overtime eligible based on FLSA standards.
All Bargaining Unit new hires MUST serve a one (1) year probationary period.
Position will be filled pursuant to the provision of the OCSEA/AFSCME Contract.
The final applicant selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment.
UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
May be required to work overtime; subject to exposure to fumes, dust, heat & noise; subject to inclement weather; subject to burns, cuts & abrasions; may work on scaffolding; may work on bridges.
