Summary of Position
The Academic Advisor is a professional advisor who serves in the Office of Academic Advising within the Koenigsberger Learning Center. This position carries a caseload of advisees; teaches a section of ELN 1010: The First Year Advising Seminar; teaches ELN 1110: Exploring Majors Seminar on a rotational basis; and supports general academic advising to undergraduate students who drop by the office. Additionally, this advisor position will develop educational programming and outreach targeted to first- and second-year students in the major decision-making process. This is a 12-month, full-time position. This position will serve on a team of academic advisors.

Education Requirements
In order to apply candidates must have completed their graduate degree in college student personnel/development, counseling, higher education administration, or a related field.

A master’s degree is required. A minimum of 1 year academic advising experience in a post-secondary setting is preferred, including graduate school level advising work. Related higher education work experience will be considered. Experience creating advising related programs for undeclared/undecided students preferred.

General Purpose of Position
The Academic Advisor is a professional advisor who serves in the Office of Academic Advising within the Koenigsberger Learning Center. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain a caseload of advisees that derives from undeclared majors.
- Annually teach a section of ELN 1010: First Year Advising Seminar, an advising seminar offered by the university.
- Share the teaching rotation of ELN 1110: Exploring Majors Seminar with other advisors in the Office of Academic Advising .
- Develop and assess educational programming and outreach targeted to first- and second-year students in the major-decision making process.
- Mentor advisees to achieve at the highest levels and to intervene effectively with students having academic difficulty. This function includes proactive advising to evaluate student academic records and recommend appropriate courses, potential majors, discuss interests, abilities, values, academic goals, and possible careers.
- Work collaboratively with other advisors in the center to support drop-in advising hours and take both scheduled and unscheduled appointments to communicate academic policy, help students to problem-solve academic concerns, and make appropriate referrals.
- Work collaboratively with other staff in the Office of Academic Advising to support office sponsored events and programs as well as events sponsored by other university offices such as the Office of Admissions and New Student Programs. This may involve occasional weekend and evening hours.
- Serve on various campus committees related to the above responsibilities to (a) represent the Office of Academic Advising and (b) report critical information to the Office of Academic Advising staff.
- Collaborate with university resources such as Counseling Services, the Office of Disabilities Resources, Learning Assistance, Student Care and Outreach, the Student Professional Development Center, etc. to make appropriate referrals to complement the advising process.
- Other duties as assigned.
