POSITION PURPOSE
Responsible for performing a variety of accounting work and related clerical duties as well as providing support to Accounting personnel. Maintains accounting document files, including daily work and accounts payable. Performs tasks necessary to prepare and update GL reconciliations and subsidiary records. Prepares various accounting reports as needed. Keeps records and accounts accurate and current. Ensures that internal and external member’s expectations are being exceeded with every interaction.
This position is eligible for work by a remote employee out of the following states:
AL, FL, GA, MD, NC, SC, TN, or VA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:
Accurately performs assigned accounting and related support functions.
- Maintains files, including filing of any preparation documentation for reconciliations, reports on employee expenses paid, and other miscellaneous filings.
- Perform critical data entry and detailed subsidiary ledger preparation for various general ledger accounts in required timeframes.
- Prepare management and Board reports as assigned.
- Assists with month-end closing.
- Assist with check adjustments.
- Research and resolve accounting errors and discrepancies.
- Process Credit Union tax reporting and remittance.
- Assist with Call Report preparation.
Effectively researches, tracks and resolves (or properly refers) accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies.
Establishes and maintains effective communication and professional business relationships with internal and external members.
- Aids and advises branches and departments in handling accounting entries and reports to obtain and convey information and/or to correct transactions.
- Assists Credit Union personnel as needed. Responds to questions and information needs.
- Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
- Attends and participates in meetings as required.
- Protects the Credit Union's quality reputation by embracing the Mission, Vision and Core Values.
- Ensures that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS:
- Accounting documents, financial reports, and related reports are accurately and timely completed and/or filed.
- Accounting errors are promptly detected and resolved.
- Accounting functions are conducted in accordance with established policies and related legal requirements.
- Good business relations exist with governmental agencies and outside business contacts.
- Good communication and coordination exist with Credit Union personnel and with management.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Technical knowledge of accounting concepts, practices, and procedures.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three years of accounting experience preferred.
- Previous Credit Union experience desired.
- Well organized and attentive to detail.
- Able to meet deadlines.
- Proficient in 10 key, computer operations and Microsoft Office.
- Strong analytical skills.
