Summary

The Department of Anesthesiology is a part of the University of Michigan Medical School and contributes to the University’s mission to strive for excellence in clinical care, research, and medical education. We prepare specialist in the field of anesthesia, critical care, and pain management with a broad spectrum of knowledge, clinical skills, and mature interpersonal communication skills to become the consummate medical professional.

This position is currently a hybrid work environment, with remote and 1-day/week onsite work. The candidate must live within a reasonable commuting distance from Ann Arbor.

The position will report to the Faculty Affairs Manager for the Department of Anesthesiology with oversight from the Associate Chair for Faculty Affairs.

Responsibilities*

HR activities related to faculty new hires:

Post new faculty positions, guide faculty through pre-hire process, academic appointment and initial hospital credentialing and obtaining medical licenses. Facilitate department orientation and on-boarding process which includes, lab coat ordering, obtain pager and ID badge, and assign mandatories in Cornerstone. Serve as back-up to team member for processing PAR's. Hold a P-Card and reconcile expenses.

Management and maintenance of HR activities related to faculty appointments:

Re-credentialing, license renewals, initial and renewal of adjunct and emeritus appointments, new appointments and track changes for current faculty, track board certification and update documentation in various department systems. Maintain dashboard that summarizes faculty maintenance requirements related to license renewals, re-credentialing deadlines, MOCA requirements, Mi-CME documentation, etc. Assist faculty with the Alternative Entry Pathway board certification process. Serve as department lead for Cornerstone mandatory requirements for faculty. Serve as administrative lead for department's Faculty Professional Development subcommittee.

Administrative assistant duties and responsibilities:

Serve as the facilities contact for the Medical Science Building department office suite. Maintain equipment and supplies, assist with setting up new space for faculty and staff within this area. Facilitate ad hoc faculty events with Chair's Office and other administrative assistants within the department. Serve as back-up to team member that supports the department's Associate Chair for Faculty Affairs.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and professional/administrative experience is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience supporting faculty or executive/departmental leadership.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and professional demeanor.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, showing sound judgment based upon experience, as well as the capability to work as part of a diverse team in a professional and collaborative manner.
  • The skill to handle confidential materials and situations with professionalism, sensitivity and discretion
  • Ability to assess competing priorities, manage workflow, and meet operational deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with a high degree of interpersonal skills.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Two or more years of experience working specifically with the faculty appointment and credentialing process within Michigan Medicine is desired.
  • Familiar with Elements and Meridian software used for processing faculty appointments.
  • Familiar to CACTUS software for processing faculty credentialing.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
