Key Objective(s): The main purpose of the Alterations Seamstress is:

• To perform alterations and repairs to customer garments, hemming, mending, shortening/lengthening, as well as taking in or letting out seams. Replace linings, buttons, zippers, and pockets for The ADdress, a specialty department store curated for the modest fashion consumer.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Use provided sewing machine and supplies to perform alterations.
• Measure and mark alteration lines.
• Pin altering folds or mark on cloth at the seem to indicate alterations in progress.
• Remove stitches from garment, using ripper or razor blade.
• Resew merchandise using needle and thread or sewing machine.
• Press merchandise, using a hand iron or steamer.
• Repair defective merchandise.
• Proactively follows through on all aspects of customer requests and orders.
• Track order status and proactively communicate updates and/or reminders.
• Communicate supply needs to the Store Manager.
• Ensure that the alterations office, workrooms, and fitting areas are kept organized, clean and safe for all employees and customers.

Desired Qualifications:

• 3+ years' experience of alterations (cutting, sowing, hemming, etc.).
• Proficient in all methods of tailoring.
• Able to operate industrial sewing machines and pressing tables.
• Able to work with fine fabric.
• Strong understanding of garment construction.
• Able to do fittings.
• Able to work to specific deadlines.
• Knowledge of pattern making and how to alter a pattern.
• Must understand both classical and modern tailoring techniques.
• Emphasis on hand sewing, stitching and technique.
• Extreme attention to detail.

SCHEDULE:

• Flexible, includes days, evenings, and weekends. Sundays are mandatory.
