Virginia College Advising Corps (VCAC) provides a near-peer, full-time college adviser to support students in their postsecondary planning, including community college, 4-year institutions, and career & technical pathways. Serving over 60 partner high schools in both rural and urban areas of the Commonwealth, VCAC advisers erase the opportunity gap for students underrepresented in higher education, including first-generation students and those from low-income and underserved backgrounds. Position Description:

The assistant director is responsible for supervising and developing a cohort of near-peer college advisers, as well as fostering and maintaining strong relationships with partner school divisions. Supervision will include working with advisers and site partners to set yearly goals, develop specific plans, and ensure student-centered deliverables. With advisers and site partners, frequent communication via virtual meetings, site visits, and written electronic formats is paramount.

As a team, assistant directors lead and implement key functional areas critical to the VCAC model. This position will focus on all aspects of adviser recruitment, from cultivating candidate pipelines, to conceptualizing and implementing recruitment strategies and processes, to managing the interview and selection process.

VCAC is a learning organization and utilizes data as a tool to measure impact and to create actionable program changes and refinements. We have a culture that values and seeks new information towards continuous improvement.

In collaboration with the executive director, the assistant director will establish and implement VCAC policies, develop innovative programs, initiatives, and communication efforts, and set direction and priorities for each program year.

  • Formulated vision for developing a recruitment strategy

  • Flexible and adaptable

  • Mature, proactive, diplomatic problem-solver and collaborator

  • Exceptional communication (written and oral), interpersonal, and presentation skills

  • Unquestionable personal code of ethics, integrity, and ability to build trust

  • Demonstrated comfort working independently with remote partners and teammates

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required

  • At least four years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree

This position is Hybrid located in Charlottesville, VA.

The anticipated start date is July 5, 2023.

This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. Anticipated Hiring Range: $57,000 - $65,000 commensurate with education, experience, and demonstrated past performance.
