Position Summary

Performs technical planning work in the Planning and Development Department. Work involves performing technical planning assignment in zoning, land use and other areas of the department. Work requires application of technical planning methods and procedures to routine and standard situations. An employee handles normal recurring assignments on their own, referring new and unusual matters or policy questions to others.

What You Will Do

  • Accepts and reviews land use applications.
  • Performs “Planner of the Day” duties.
  • Explains land use codes and other requirements to developers and the public.
  • Conducts subdivision and zoning research to determine compliance.
  • Assists in reviewing and issuing administrative approvals.
  • Generates and updates zoning maps; updates planning database.
  • Conducts staff reviews of land use cases including preliminary verifications and research, on-site inspections and preparation of written staff reviews.
  • Assists other planning staff as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.

What You Have

EDUCATION:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency required
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in urban planning, social science, geography or related field preferred
EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of one year experience in land use development, planning or related field required
  • Experience in local government that involved heavy public contact preferred
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must successfully pass background check.
