Department Summary
The Counseling Program at UNT Dallas prepares a multi-culturally competent counselor and a change agent who promotes wellness in children, adults, families, schools, and communities locally and worldwide. The Program offers two CACREP accredited master’s programs: school counseling and mental health counseling. Mentored by dedicated faculty with extensive experience as licensed practitioners and in research, our students undergo an authentic experiential and evidence-based training. Graduates of the UNTD Counseling program are dedicated leaders and advocates for diversity in the communities they serve.

Position Summary
The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Counseling (School Counseling) starting in Fall 2023. UNT Dallas – the city’s first four-year public institution of higher education – offers faculty the unique opportunity to help shape the character of a 21st-century, learner-focused, comprehensive urban university.
This position is a tenure-track, 9-month term appointment responsible for teaching three graduate courses per semester and helping build and develop the School Counseling program. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in scholarly research and participate in service activities such as program assessment, program accreditation (CACREP), student advisement, student recruitment, and committee leadership. The counseling program is particularly interested in candidates with school counseling experience and certified school counselors in Texas.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Teach three graduate counseling courses per semester, including web-based, hybrid, and face-to-face counseling courses.
  • Supervise the clinical experiences of community counseling and school counseling students in both practicum and internship.
  • Advise students in a Master’s level CACREP accredited School Counseling program.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and perform service to the university, the school, the profession, and the community.
  • Participate in curriculum development, program assessment, and evaluation of student learning outcomes.
  • Attend university, college, department, and program meetings, participate in related community-based projects, and participate on university service committees as appointed.



Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Counselor Education from a CACREP (The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs) accredited or equivalent program.
  • Eligible for a License in Professional Counseling in the State of Texas (LPC).
  • School Counseling specialization
  • Proven teaching excellence in graduate instruction and demonstrated clinical competence in school counseling.
  • Documented professional counselor identity as evidenced by the education, teaching, clinical experience, and professional affiliations (such as American Counseling Association, Texas Counseling Association, American School Counseling Association, and Association for Counselor Education and Supervision).
  • Documented professional experience and competency in working with culturally diverse populations.
  • Willingness to engage in community/school-university partnerships.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
  • Certified School Counselor in Texas
  • Familiarity with CACREP accreditation process
  • Evidence of student-orientated instruction and leading within a collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated outreach and service activities.
  • Counseling skills; knowledge of statistics, diversity, and addiction.
  • Clinical experience as clinic director, practitioner, or supervisor of an agency, non-profit organization, or hospital.
