Assistant Sports Field Manager

The Assistant Sports Field Manager reports directly to the Head Sports Field Manager. Under the Head Sports Field Manager's supervision, the Assistant Sports Field Manager directs and participates in the maintenance, renovation, construction and consultation of sports fields and related work as required. He/she typically supervises the sports field staff and may serve in the Head Sports Field Manager’s capacity during absences.

Job Functions:

  • Assist in planning, supervising and executing daily and weekly plans set forth in planning meetings with the Head Sports Field Manager.
  • Instruct equipment operators on the operation and care of equipment related to the job and/or operate equipment related to daily tasks, supervise or perform chemical/fertilization applications, calibrate application equipment, keep accurate application records.
  • Assist in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety and training, keep records and write reports, daily/weekly timesheets, and may also modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.
  • Attend trade shows with Head Sports Field Manager during off-season to promote the industry and KEI services to potential customer base.

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • All types of sports field maintenance labor such as:

- Turfgrass management

- Sod cutting and installation

- Irrigation management

- Mowing, trimming and use of blowers

- Fertilizer application with walk-behind and/or mechanically driven spreader

- Field layout, marking and logo painting

- Baseball specific: infield, mound and home plate maintenance

  • The operation and maintenance of power equipment such as:

- Reel and rotary mowers

- Tractors

- Skid-steer loader

- Utility vehicles

- Laser Grading Machine (ABI)

- Line Painter (manual & Robotic)

- Backpack blowers

- String trimmers

- Stick and walk behind edger

- Top-dresser

- Aerators

- Dump truck

Additional duties:

  • Basic carpentry
  • Installation of netting systems
  • Base anchor installation
  • Reading of job plans
  • Attending meetings as necessary
  • Hauling equipment
  • All other duties as necessary

Employment Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record. CDL is a plus, but not required.
  • Working knowledge of the maintenance of sports fields: seeding, sodding, mowing, aerification and sand topdressing.
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a Wisconsin Commercial Pesticide Applicators License.
  • Availability to be on-call and work long hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with customer base.
  • Ability to work independently and with others as necessary.
  • Organizational skills and high attention to detail.
  • High level of understanding of sports governing bodies’ requirements for field layouts and markings or desire to learn.
  • Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of crew and equipment
  • Maintain effective employee and employer communication.
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities such as seminars, workshops, web-based training courses, and field days.

Physical Demands:

  • The ability to lift 50 pounds of weight frequently throughout assigned workday.
  • Ability to work in various degrees of outdoor weather conditions, including but not limited to extreme heat and rain.
  • Ability to work in various positions, including but not limited to stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods of time.

Compensation:

  • Position is Full Time Seasonal with an hourly wage range of $20-28/hr. depending on experience.
