Job description
The Assistant Supply Chain Manager directly supports and assists the Supply Chain Manager. This position manages and oversees the Put-Away, Order Fulfillment, Call Center Support, and Shipping Teams and is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely fulfillment, put-away, organization, and delivery of all product within the supply chain warehousing operation. Additionally, this position supports all four (4) sales channels. The Assistant Supply Chain Manager reports to the Supply Chain Manager and is responsible for functional and technological performance of all warehouse, fulfillment, shipping, and put-away processes. This individual ensures that the fulfillment, shipping, and put-away teams are well trained and that critical performance levels and key indicators are supported and sustained.
Essential Functions
Assist the Supply Chain Manager
- Takes on special project assignments given by the Supply Chain Manager.
- Assumes assigned duties of the Supply Chain Manager when Supply Chain Manager is absent.
- Helps ensure current software and warehouse equipment are adequate to meet business needs.
- Supports and helps refine processes to maximize margin dollar performance while balancing inventory needs.
- Assist in maximizing efficient use of space and systems and collaborating with the Category Management team.
- Attends development conferences and meetings of the Church Transportation Committee as assigned by the Supply Chain Manager.
Direct, Manage, and Support the Put-Away, Fulfillment, Call Center, Shipping Teams and Processes
- Oversee the hiring and training of team members.
- Demonstrates leadership and knowledge in all related functions.
- Ability to fill in and work within any given capacity within the managed processes.
- Ensures accuracy / timeliness of put-away, fulfillment, and shipping processes and works to improve performance metrics.
- Helps resolve fulfillment discrepancies, errors, and related issues within the warehouse and put-away processes.
- Organizes a systematic practice to keep order fulfillment and shipping at acceptable levels.
- Ensures adequate initial/ongoing training for students and non-student employees on the team.
- Ensures timely delivery of products to shipping and sales teams for processing.
- Shows fairness and good judgment in decision-making and delegation of responsibilities.
- Support, encourage, and motivate all team members.
- Ensure all product is able to be scanned and is labeled for use in sales channels.
- Implements processes/procedures that produce exceptional customer service.
- Oversee shipping claims process for lost, damaged, or delayed orders.
Warehouse Organization and Cleanliness
- Maintain immaculate warehouse organization and cleanliness to ensure easy retrieval of product for the warehouse team.
- Ensure appropriate zone and bin locations for all product within the warehouse.
- Adjust and reorganize product as changing needs evolve within the warehouse structure.
- Continuously look for ways to improve processes and efficiencies within the warehouse.
- Maintain extremely high levels of inventory accuracy within the warehouse.
- Ensures timely and accurate inventory item transfers from the warehouse to the campus store as needed during all operating business hours.
Data and Metric Analysis / Process Improvement
- Create metrics for measuring success and creating goals.
- Use reports and data mining tools to assess needs and gain insights into key performance indicators (KPI’s).
- Shares important reports and data metrics with other stakeholders.
- Utilizes computer software reports to identify gaps in the warehouse process and finds solutions to solve gaps.
Collaborate with Key Functional Teams
- Collaborates with all supply chain teams to maximize overall warehouse performance.
- Appropriately communicate with key stakeholders via training meetings, planning meetings, etc.
- Participates in necessary meetings with store teams to ensure effective/efficient processes are utilized.
- Coordinate efforts with I.T., Accounting, Category Management, Inventory and Sales teams as necessary.
Education/Experience
Minimum education/experience required:
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience in the retail or warehouse industry OR 5 years’ previous experience in the warehouse and warehouse put-away industry.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, or Business and 5 years’ previous experience in supply chain management.
