POSITION: Associate Medical Director

STATUS: Exempt

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Medical Director

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Medical providers at Brighton site and other staff.

The Associate Medical Director will be working with dedicated, committed, diverse group of medical providers and a multidisciplinary team to provide quality care and patient-centered care coordination.

DUTIES:

RESONSIBILITIES (ASSOCIATE MEDICAL DIRECTOR):

  • Under the supervision of the Medical Director, and in conjunction with the other Associate Medical Directors, responsible for coordination and supervision of clinical aspects of medical care provided at the CRCH, including establishing, evaluating, and maintaining professional standards in all services.

  • Supervises all medical providers at the site, Brighton performance evaluations and resolving performance issues and other personnel matters as they arise.

  • In conjunction with the Medical Director, participates in recruitment & retention of Providers.

  • Works with Medical Director as needed to assure adequate medical coverage for scheduled sessions at all times, particularly during vacations of providers. This will include approving earned time requests and/or approval of substitute providers and per diem sessions. Associate Medical Director is expected to provide coverage directly if sufficient coverage is not available through other providers.

  • With the Medical Director, regularly reviews productivity and other reports and follows up with providers to address issues and concerns.

  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities, and drives providers making progress on their individual performance on ACO and UDS quality metrics and improving CRCH’s risk score for our primary care patient population.

  • With the Medical Director, serves as liaison for Charles River Community Health for medical services between affiliate hospitals and other health care and community affiliations as necessary. May represent the CRCH and its interests to community groups and organizations.

  • Participates in community outreach, health education and screening events, and arranges for participation of other providers in the same.

RESPONSIBILITIES (PROVIDER):

  • Evaluates and treats patients including walk-ins, writes prescriptions, provides preventive health care advice and case management, assesses psychological impact of illness and treats or appropriately refers patients for evaluation and treatment.

  • Provides consultation to providers.

  • Participates in the Medical Student and/or other clinical discipline training activities at the Center.

  • Participates in the formation and evaluation of applicable protocols.

  • Maintains continuity of care when Health Center patients utilize other health care facilities, i.e. referrals, emergency room services, outpatient departments, specialty clinics, and inpatient services.

  • Refers patients for specialty services, as appropriate, provides documentation according to Health Center procedures and follows up on results.

  • Participates in staff meetings, quality improvement, peer review and similar activities, keeping with Health Center procedures.

  • Participates in 24-hour on-call medical coverage,

  • Participates in on-site and off-site outreach and continuing education programs and ensures training to maintain license and to meet the needs of the population.


Productivity level expected: Expected to meet clinical standards of productivity as defined by CRCH’s current budget.

TIME EXPECTATIONS: (per full-time equivalent)

  • Provision of clinical and case management services = 6 sessions/week or 75%

  • Administration = 2 sessions/week or 25%

Qualifications:

  • MD degree and must have completed a three-year residency in Family or Internal Medicine or an NP degree plus at least 3 years’ experience, must be Board Certified and licensed as an APRN in family practice or internal medicine.

  • Must be Board-eligible and/or Board certified in a primary care specialty including Family Medicine, Adult Medicine, and/or Pediatrics.

  • Must have current a Massachusetts license.

  • Must have minimum 1 years of previous supervisory experience.

  • Must apply for and be granted privileges at affiliated hospital(s) (MDs only)

  • Prior experience in a community health setting preferred; ambulatory experience required.

  • Experience in working with diverse cultures preferred with strong ability to work well with diverse staff across the organization.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong ability to lead, make decisions based on data and what will best meet patient, provider, and organizational needs.

  • Strong ability to coach and mentor providers and resolve daily issues and conflicts that may arise to mitigate any negative impact on practice culture and access to patient care.
