Smithfield Foods is looking for an energetic, structured self-starter to join our team as an Associate People and Culture Specialist. This role will be an intricate part of the team with focus on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), and Employee Experience and Engagement (EXE) to directly support positive employee engagement and drive a diverse and inclusive workplace culture. You would be instrumental in achieving Smithfield’s goal to become the #1 consumer packaged goods company in the world!

The Associate People and Culture Specialist is responsible for supporting and collaborating with the teams and initiatives that the department is responsible for. This includes providing high-quality project assistance, coordination, and execution.

This position will be focused on initiatives covering employee retention, organizational inclusion, awareness, alignment, and an accountability centric mindset along with a culture of engaging others. This will be accomplished using research methods, detail-oriented approach, relationship building, and cross-functional collaboration.

The Associate People and Culture Specialist will be expected to provide project management support to the delivery of creative and robust employee relations programs and solutions that align and enhance Smithfield’s vision, culture, values, strategy, and operations model to retain the very best, diverse, forward-thinking talent.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates a variety of project management duties in support of the People and Culture team to ensure tasks and projects meet deadlines, are delivered on-time and within scope.
  • Supports deployment of the People agenda for the business, including engagement and DEI programs, actions and initiatives that enable the delivery of the manufacturing business strategy across all manufacturing facilities.
  • Prepare various communication media including presentations, using PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and other programs, as necessary.
  • Assists in the deployment of the employee survey process.
  • Assist in the day-to-day program sustainment tasks such as expensing, scheduling, and researching.
  • Reinforces a positive culture through the execution of strong internal communications and EXE and DEI strategies, promote inclusion and diversity, assist in driving related initiatives.
  • Drives the communications of Smithfield’s Core 4 Competencies to create a roadmap for leadership to utilize when building engagement and retention plans. Focusing on driving a culture of gratitude, accountability, and respect.
  • Identify gaps and make recommendations for additional training, education and development needs, partnering with the DEI, Talent Development, Talent Acquisition, and HR teams to ensure a consistent approach to learning across the Company.
  • Collaborates and promotes inclusive leadership and teams.
  • Partners across the People and Culture team to coordinate coaching, counseling, education, and training support across facilities for managers on key issues/trends identified.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and/or experience, required
  • Human Resources generalist/professional, and understanding of agriculture and manufacturing work environments, preferred.
  • Experience demonstrating high judgment and working with confidential or highly sensitive subject matter.
  • An effective communicator with the ability to clearly and concisely articulate ideas, concepts, and proposals to engage team, peers, and management.
  • Ability to prepare presentations and graphics (includes using skills as Desktop Publishing, Publisher, Power Point, other media tools, etc.)
  • Extremely high level of attention to detail and follow-up, required.
  • Strong and proactive communication skills, confidence, and professional presence.
  • Highest level of integrity - discretion and maintenance of confidentiality required.
  • Proven experience in organization, multi-tasking, and prioritization abilities.
  • Professional demeanor, proven good judgment, exemplary customer service skills.
  • Motivated, even-tempered team player possessing strong, creative problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborating and working well with others in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time depending upon initiatives.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
  • The majority of the time is spent in an office setting outside of the production plant.
  • The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.
