Reports to: Early Childhood Education Manager

Responsibilities: Under general supervision, develop and implement a developmentally appropriate preschool program for children to help them develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally. Observe and record observations concerning each individual child’s development according to Head Start Performance Standards and Regulations.

$2,000 Sign on bonus

DUTIES: The Associate Teacher will work alongside the Head Start Lead Teacher with the following duties:

1. Develop Weekly Planning Forms according to all Head Start Performance Standards and the Frog StreetCurriculum. Discuss weekly plan with Assistant Teacher. Post the Weekly Plan in the classroom.

2. Plan, organize, and direct daily classroom activities.3. Communicate with children in an appropriate manner.4. Comply with Wisconsin Statutes Children’s Code and Head Start Personnel Policies in suspected cases of child abuse or neglect.

5. Assist in screening children as requested.6. Conduct on-going observations and assessments on each child and record their progress.7. Responsible for recording of outcomes and outcome computer entry. Refer to procedures.8. Plan and participate in field trips that are developmentally appropriate.9. Conduct the required amount of home visits each year in order to discuss the child’s development and progress. (Initial home visit, Fall conferences, Spring conference, and end of the year home visit.)

10. Responsible for the health and safety of the children using Active Supervision, both in the classroom, outdoors on the playground, and on fieldtrips.

11. Will be responsible for giving medications as directed and trained, by the Head Start Health/NutritionManager, for any children in their care. Examples of medications may include, but are not limited to: eye/ear drops, ointments, special feedings, oral medications, or injections.

12. Make written referrals of children with Special Needs to the Special Needs/Mental Health Manager.13. The teaching team will work together to collect and prepare materials as needed for learning activities.14. Follow emergency procedures according to Head Start policies. Practice and record monthly fire/tornado drills with the children and staff.

15. Use positive guidance with children.16. Contact parents by phone or notes throughout the year to handle immediate concerns. Provide a weekly newsletter and monthly calendar to parents and request translation as needed.

17. Work with parents and volunteers to effectively use their skills and abilities in planning and carrying out classroom activities.

18. Perform the duties of Bus Monitor for transporting the children to and from class. Must follow the job description for Bus Monitor when in this role.

19. Assist and encourage parents to participate in all aspects of the program as described in the PerformanceStandards.

20. Work together with pertinent staff to carry through Parent Activities.

21. Provide information to parents concerning activities to do with their child in regard to growth and development and individual needs of the child.

22. Follow rules and regulations as required by the host site.23. Maintain and submit required records and reports in a neat, accurate, and timely manner; using Head Start required forms.

24. Enter attendance in the ChildPlus data entry system.25. Maintain confidentiality at all times; both at work and in the community.26. Attend appropriate in-house and other agency related meetings.27. Attend Head Start provided in-services, take part in at least 25 hours of Continuing Education opportunities per year and record.

28. Follow Wisconsin Licensing Rules for Group Child Care Centers.29. Become an active member of the site team; perform any duties to make the site run efficiently and effectively.

30. Performs all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Associate Degree in Early Childhood required for 3K teachers.2. Speaking and writing skills that enable effective communication.3. Basic computer skills.4. Skills and abilities to function as an effective, positive team member.5. Must be able to work well with adults and children with varied backgrounds and beliefs.6. Must be able to keep accurate files, file monthly reports, and make all documentation in a timely manner.7. Must pass Pre-Employment drug tests.8. Must be in good health and obtain a physical examination as required.9. Must have Mantoux tuberculin test upon hire.10. Must have valid driver’s license. Automobile insurance, including liability, and an automobile for occasional use on the job.

11. Must be flexible and be able to occasionally work irregular hours.12. Frequent significant decision and problem solving abilities.13. Ability to work as a team member collaborating with staff, parents and community resources.14. Ability to apply Early Childhood Development theory in daily activities, and adapt to the individual needs of children.

15. Ability to respond appropriately to an emergency or a crisis situation.16. Occasional driving for home visits, sometimes in outlying areas.17. Daily kneeling, stooping, bending, and sitting on the floor to attend to children's needs.18. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
