Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is excited to announce an opportunity to serve as an Audit Manager Senior in our Assurance and Compliance Office.

This position is located in Richmond, Virginia. Position specific responsibilities and duties will include, but not limited to:

Perform professional internal audits by planning, supervising, and conducting several current audits, to include potential financial (i.e. examination of the accuracy and adequacy of financial and accounting systems); compliance (i.e. examination of the adherence to legislative requirements and administrative policies); operational (i.e. examination of the efficiency of operational policies, procedures, practices, and controls); IT (i.e. examination of internal controls within the systems environment, computer operating systems, and applications); and special projects and fraud investigations.

This position requires a fingerprint based Criminal History Background Check, DMV Record Check and Work History Verification with references.

VDOT is an emergency operation agency. Positions physically working within Central Office locations may be designated upon request and coordination among the respective District Engineer or Administrator and Chief. Assignments are updated annually. Not all designated employees are provided an emergency operations assignment.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience interpreting and applying complex laws, regulations and GAAP, GAAS, and IIA Standards.

Experience establishing the scope of audit engagements, formulating applicable audit procedures, and planning and budgeting for audits.

Ability to coordinate, assign, schedule and supervise multiple concurrent audits.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management and employees.

Ability to perform management analysis and evaluate the performance or compliance of organizational units.

Ability to derive logical conclusions and recommendations for improvement.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include MS Office.

Ability to travel occasionally overnight and out-of-state.

Ability to maintain safety and situational awareness when visiting work zone sites.


Preferred Qualifications:

Degree in Business, Information Systems or Engineering.

Progressively responsible auditing experience including supervision, instruction, or oversight of professional auditors.

Knowledge of transportation systems.

Knowledge or proven ability to audit highway construction and maintenance projects.

Knowledge of computer programming languages, systems analysis and design, and IT development methods and various query tools.

Ability to audit application systems and knowledge of information systems.
