Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary
The Biomedical Equipment Tech III repairs and maintains medical equipment and associated information technology. The Biomedical Equipment Tech III performs project management duties.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Performs preventative maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting and repair of both mechanical and electronic medical equipment.
- Performs and oversees various appropriate medical equipment modifications as assigned as a part of equipment recalls/modifications or related to hospital staff requests.
- Ensures safety as related to medical equipment and its use to include; acceptance inspection for new equipment, safety inspections from borrowed and/or rental equipment, scheduled safety and operational inspection of current inventory, following appropriate sterile procedures.
- Responsible for documenting work activity both in equipment maintenance software and on appropriate forms when required, in a timely manner.
- Responsible for the management of equipment within “core” group of equipment as well as any assigned equipment to include scheduled preventative maintenance, repair and in-service needs when identified. This includes meeting department thresholds for equipment PM completion.
- Understands and provides guidance to others when working with the guidelines established by NFPA, TJC, ISDH, EPA, OSHA and Eskenazi Health’s Biomedical Engineering Department.
- Assigned project leadership responsibilities for prioritizing tasks and supervising individuals assigned to the project. Oversees projects from assignment to conclusion and documents progress accordingly. Is prepared to offer feedback on individuals assigned to project and regularly communicates with management regarding deadline completion / roadblocks and needed resources.
- Attends departmental meetings and is responsible for changes in departmental protocol i.e. changes in work order coding, asset entry guidelines etc.
- Possesses mentoring skills and frequently are assigned work study and intern students to manage. Offers feedback on students’ progress and skills.
- Assists Clinical Engineer in design of preventive maintenance program for medical equipment.
- Prioritizes and implements preventive maintenance program which includes documentation of results and testing of equipment. Creates PM procedures and forms for specific equipment testing
- Fabricates and modifies equipment as required, deciding whether parts conform to specifications and are, therefore, usable
- Maintains biomedical engineering network systems to include but not limited to: Infant and adult security network, infusion pump maintenance network and reporting, electronic medical record middleware, RFID systems, and patient monitoring networks.
- Assists with medical device network security controls and audits.
- Works with Information Security Officer to understand HIPPA and ePHI requirements and ensures compliance for Biomedical Engineering staff.
- Is assigned and manages life support equipment to include preventative maintenance, repairs and incident reporting.
Job Requirements
- Completion of an associate’s degree in biomedical engineering and AAMI certification with at least 3 years of Biomedical service experience OR
- Completion of an associate’s degree in biomedical engineering and on-going evidence of continuing education in pursuit of AAMI certification along with at least 8 years of Biomedical service experience OR
- A 4-year degree in biomedical or electrical Engineering and at least 2 years of experience.
- Relevant information technology certifications/training preferred (e.g. A+/Net+, MCSE/MCSA, CCNA/CCDP/CCIE, CNE, PMI/PMP, CCSA, etc.)
- Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of educational requirements
- Must hold a valid Indiana Driver’s License that meets Eskenazi Health’s driving policy requirements
