Weems design Studio is a Federal Government Contractor at the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, GA. We have an immediate opening for a Biostatistician. The Biostatistician will provide scientific and technical support services to CDC and collaborators and will focus on surveillance, epidemiology, control, and prevention of Legionnaire's disease; expanding state-based antimicrobial resistance surveillance for key community acquired bacterial pathogens; recruiting and maintaining a multi-disciplinary cadre of epidemiologists at CDC with clinical backgrounds. Globally, efforts will focus on global partnerships to monitor, control and prevent Legionnaire's disease; supporting and strengthening surveillance for community-acquired bacterial infections; strengthening global capacity to detect and characterize antimicrobial resistance among leading community pathogens; and strengthening global primary and secondary bacterial infection prevention efforts.
In this role, the Biostatistician will:
- Collaborate with CDC and its state and local health department partners via conference calls to develop study protocols.
- Assist with developing and pilot testing instruments (e.g., questionnaires, chart abstract forms) and enrollment procedures to be used in the assessments.
- Work with CDC to develop appropriate data systems that allow for secure collection and electronic transmission of data.
- Coordinate monitoring of enrollment, data analysis, interpretation of results, and preparation of reports for presentation and publication.
- Work with state and local partners and CDC to review, track, and monitor progress towards the project goals and to address any risks, delays, or performance problems.
- Work with state and local partners and CDC to investigate disease outbreaks.
- Ensure data quality and integrity of data documentation.
- Developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures and protocols for analysis of MiSeq and possibly the PacBio generated sequences.
- Develop and maintain a database ofNGS generated by these platforms.
- Write code and use existing software to fully analyze data.
- Ensure all data and metrics meets Quality Management Standards for.NGS results.
- Provide results to other scientists within RDB.
- Preparation of scientific reports and manuscripts.
- Be able to effectively communicate technical elements of bioinformatics to other staff scientists and upper management.
- Provide training and/or assistance to junior bioinformatic scientists.
- Research and design for assay development for the detection and characterization of respiratory pathogens.
- Research and design for assay development for the detection and characterization of respiratmy pathogens.
- Provide support for upgrading the Active Bacterial Core surveillance (ABCs) data management system, merging ABCs' epidemiological and laboratory data, and data management.
- Provide support services in Applied and Complex Bioinformatics.
- Provide emergency and outbreak response to CDC's Emergency Operation Center (EOC) and to DBD in outbreak situations.
A Master’s degree in Biostatistics preferred.
