Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Business Administrator in the Center for Advancing Research & Evaluation for Patient-Centered Care (CARE-PC); Child Health Institute of New Jersey (CHINJ); and RWJMS Institute for Neurological Therapeutics (RINTS) within Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

This position serves as the chief financial and administrative officer for the three Research Institutes: the Center for Advancing Research & Evaluation for Patient-Centered Care, (CARE-PC), the Child Health Institute of New Jersey (CHINJ); and the RWJMS Institute for Neurological Therapeutics (RINTS). Essential responsibilities include: preparation of annual budget and monthly financial statements; pre-award and post-award grants administration; review and approve expenditures; serve as institute human resources manager; provide strategic planning and advice to the Institute Directors; etc.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Prepares and monitors the annual budget.
  • Responsible for pre-award and post-award grants administration.
  • Reviews and approves expenditures in the Rutgers MarketPlace procurement system.
  • Serves as the departmental human resources manager.
  • Advises and assists the Institute Directors with strategic planning, budget and financial management, and operational issues.
  • Prepares business plans for faculty recruitment and coordinates steps and approvals in selection of finalist and preparation of letter of offer.
  • Ensures establishment and on-going oversight of faculty start-up accounts and faculty discretionary accounts.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration or business related discipline.
  • A minimum of seven years of progressive financial and operational management experience preferably in an academic medical school or biomedical research institution.
  • Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of and experience with financial and administrative systems (financial information systems, purchasing, payroll and human resources).
  • Demonstrated capability of handling confidential and sensitive material and interactions.
  • Outstanding human relations skills, and the ability to function in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Research administration experience including federal and foundation grants, contracts and subawards.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking, or hearing. No special vision requirements.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic). This position is considered on site, however opportunities for hybrid in person / remote work may be permissible in accordance with Rutgers/RBHS policies.
