Primary PurposeSempra Infrastructure (SI) develops, builds and operates energy infrastructure not only to help meet energy and decarbonization needs of customers in North America but also to connect cost-effective and secure North American resources with the rest of the world. Sempra LNG & Net Zero Solutions (SLNG & NZS) is a business line within SI that focuses on the development, construction and operation of energy infrastructure facilities including natural gas liquefaction, carbon capture & sequestration, clean hydrogen/ammonia production and other facilities linked to emerging sectors within net zero.
The primary duties of the Business Development Manager include identifying and developing LNG and net zero fuels infrastructure opportunities in North America, establishing and maintaining relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders, and staying up-to-date with competitive dynamics and technology advancements in the target market spaces.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the definition and monitoring of project development plans which includes the coordination with internal teams and the approval of development budgets with senior management.
- Support the identification and development of energy infrastructure growth opportunities within sector(s) of focus to include supporting the origination agenda for new projects and RFPs.
- Define the commercial framework for project(s) to include structuring and negotiating agreements with counterparties, legal and commercial development/marketing teams.
Partner with relevant teams (market fundamentals, strategy, business development, etc.) to develop and maintain the strategy and business plan(s) for sector(s) of focus. Support the advancement of the execution of business plans in coordination with management.
- Perform market and pricing analyses of targeted sector(s) and region(s).
- Foster and develop business relationships with internal departments, external prospective and existing customers and counter parties for sector(s) of focus.
- Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
- Bachelor's Degree Engineering, Business, Economics, Sustainability, or a related field of study, is required.
- Master's Degree Business, Finance, or advanced Engineering field of study, is preferred
- 7+ years of overall work experience in the energy sector (with at least 3 in gas/LNG/net zero), required.
- 7+ years in a comparable role developing energy infrastructure projects and delivering of business objectives
- 3+ years in the LNG and/or hard to electrify decarbonization industry in specifically in a commercial and marketing related role. Require.
- 3 + Supervisory experience a great plus with ability to manage a team of experienced professionals under direct supervision, and within an indirect, matrix organization structure. Required
- Knowledge of market structures, policies, technologies, and trends.
- Knowledge of competitive dynamics for energy infrastructure solutions.
- Ability to establish and maintain credibility with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to analyze and understand complex situations
- Ability to develop, recommend and implement practicable solutions in accordance with world-class industry standards.
- Ability to work within and/or lead a cross-functional, matrix organization including technical, permitting, commercial, operations, finance, accounting, tax, insurance, external relations and related functions within a project team.
- Ability to understand contractual terms and conditions, risks and related topics within the project scope and contracts/documents including Memorandums or Understanding, Project Development Agreements, Joint Venture Agreements, LNG Sales/Purchases, Tolling Agreements, Gas Sales/Purchases, Pipeline Transportation, EPC Contract, Import/Export Authorizations, Permits, Financing Agreements, Risk Assessments, and related subjects.
- Ability to adapt to changing project-related priorities and deliver high quality, accurate work within required deadlines.
- Ability to read and write proficiently in the English language.
- Ability to review complex agreements and recommend revisions to project documents.
- Communication and interpersonal skills for managing and working within a project team.
- Ability to present information to senior management.
- Ability to manage a team of experienced professionals under direct supervision, and within an indirect, matrix organization structure.
- Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
- Ability to travel, both domestic and international, via automobile, airplane, and mass transit.
