As the Category Program Manager for the Electronic Assemblies Global Category Management team, you will lead the overall strategic sourcing process with accountability for supplier relationship management along with cost, service, and quality metrics for the assigned supply base.
In this globally scoped role, you will have responsibility for engaging with the Operations Network to ensure the delivery of effective sourcing strategies and standards that deliver to Medtronic’s overall operations and business results.
Partnering closely with Medtronic’s supply management operations networks organizations, you will work to leverage cross Operations Network strategies at an enterprise level and continuously work to develop and improve leveraging opportunities by consolidating spend with key business partners supporting the broader interests of Medtronic. In addition, you will be responsible for leveraging strategic sourcing processes across Medtronic by maximizing the company’s combined purchase power to reduce the overall cost of ownership and acquisition through strategic negotiations and optimize supplier relationship management opportunities through partnerships within their primary categories of oversight.

This is a hybrid role with preferred locations are Tempe, AZ, or Minneapolis, MN but may consider fully remote based on location.
A Day in the Life
The Category Manager will have overall responsibility for leading a cross-functional, cross-divisional category team in the development and implementation of strategies and goals for assigned commodities, in support of business objectives for driving improved supplier relationship management, improved service, quality assurance, advancing technology with R&D / new product development teams, risk reduction/mitigation, and delivering lowest total cost of ownership.
Supporting Supply Strategy Development & Commercial Agreements, you will:
Support development & deployment of electronic assemblies strategies in alignment with Operation Networks. These would include Pumps, Motors, Blowers, Compressors, Fans, Valves, and other electromechanical products used in the manufacturing of medical devices.
Negotiate cross Operation Network Agreements with suppliers including purchasing, development, supply, VMI, etc.
Monitor Agreements for compliance and drive supplier accountability.
Develop strong partnering relationships with Suppliers, multiple Manufacturing Operations Sites, Materials Quality Assurance, Materials Technology, Development/Technology/Research community, Technical Sourcing Specialists, Finance, and Legal department to accomplish strategic objectives.
Material Cost Optimization Roadmap Strategy & Innovation:
Drive year over year total cost of ownership improvement using negotiation, contract management, competitive bidding, should cost analysis, supplier consolidation, and VA/VE.
Identify and appropriately leverage technology innovation from the commodity supply base.
Utilize analytics & metrics to identify, organize suppliers accordingly, in conjunction with Operation Networks.
Lead Supplier Relationship Management process to further leverage our strategic partnerships to achieve our goals and objectives.
Lead efforts for supplier analysis, selection processes, make/buy, outsourcing, & business transitions within your area of responsibility.
Supporting Supply & Supplier Market Intelligence, you will:
Develop and deploy Global market intelligence for your categories and provide insights to support network optimization opportunities.
Research and analyze the supply marketplace, maintain a working knowledge of cost drivers, product/service pricing, and market conditions, and identify new and/or alternate sources of supply.
Develop market & category risk reduction strategies in partnership with the operating unit.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Bachelors degree required
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
Nice to Have
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or Supply Chain
Strong technical aptitude with expertise in Textiles, Films, Substrates and or relevant technical experience
APICS or ISM professional certification (CPIM or CPSM)
Effective negotiation, decision making and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written & verbal communication within team and cross-functionally.
Highly organized and effective in managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
