POSITION TITLE:

CDL Truck Driver

POSITION SUMMARY:

The CDL Truck Driver is expected to work as a valued member of the Shipping and Receiving operation. This job will primarily consist of local vehicle operations involving positioning and moving trucks and trailers. The person in this role must ensure the correct, quality products arrive at the correct location at the correct time. They are responsible for loading products onto the transport vehicle and ensuring all products meet quality standards. When not driving the vehicle, they fulfill the duties of the Shipping and Receiving Clerk and are responsible to verify and keep records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain a valid Class A license.
  • Operate company-owned and leased trucks over 4 tons to facilitate shipping and receiving operations.
  • Operator trucks for delivery, pickup and relocation of products and materials.
  • Perform required before, during, and after-operations “user maintenance” and provide required reports.
  • Provide outstanding customer service during delivery and pickup operations.
  • Maintain all required certifications required by DOT, OSHA and Stillwater safety programs.
  • Maintain and protect all property in excellent condition.
  • Ships goods utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes and rates.
  • Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons, using stenciling equipment.
  • Inserts items into containers, using spacers, fillers, and protective padding.
  • Stamps, stencils or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers.
  • Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.
  • Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, checks for freight damage, matches shipping documents to product received (quantity, type, P.O. number) and certificate of conformance, when required.
  • Routes items to departments.
  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
  • Performs all computer functions necessary to track various aspects of goods.
  • Operates lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.
  • Directs others in preparing outgoing and receiving incoming shipments.
  • Delivers and pick up parts and supplies using company vehicle.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Required:
  • Have a valid US Driver’s License
  • No driving convictions or DUI in past 5 years
  • Ability to pass the DOT drug screen and DOT physical
  • Minimum of high school education and one year of factory-related experience in shipping and receiving.
  • Ability to read and write English, follow verbal instructions, and use simple math.
  • A valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Technical abilities as needed to perform all job responsibilities
  • Must possess good communication skills with the ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions, as well as express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word. Must be able to convey detailed or important information accurately.
  • Possess the flexibility to adapt to changing plans, schedules or actions to provide maximum efficiency within the department.
  • Self-driven with the ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet deadlines.
  • High integrity with an uncompromising attitude to poor quality and errors to ensure substandard products or information are not visible to the customer.

This position is very active and requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching with hands and arms, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee is frequently required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold. They may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. Work is performed in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. Duties may require sitting for long periods of time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
