Job Summary

JOB TITLE: ORTHODONTIC ASSISTANT

REPORTS TO: PRACTICE ADMINISTRATOR

Summary of Position:

This position is responsible for assisting with all clinical functions in the practice while assuring that all patients are treated professionally, with respect, kindness and understanding. Assistant will use his/her clinical skills to follow the doctor and clinical supervisor’s lead in patient care and clinical objectives.

Responsibilities and Duties

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promote the Orthodontist and practice at all times. Display a pleasant and professional appearance and personality.
  • Greet and welcome patients in a friendly professional manner. Treat the patients with genuine care and concern at all times.
  • Attend and participate in Morning Huddles to review the day’s schedule prior to the start of patients, Consultations for the day and review Practice Goals to maximize productivity, intercept forseeable problems, and generate Doctor/Staff cohesiveness.
  • Assist the Doctor, and Treatment Coordinator/Assistant Manager with additional duties as needed.
  • Work closely with all team members to monitor patient flow and remain on time throughout the day.
  • Assist with follow up for Initial Bandings and contacting them after procedure.
  • Maintain highest standards of cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the practice.
  • Ensure the continual functioning of all clinical equipment and assist with upkeep of equipment.
  • Maintain inventory for clinical items.
  • Work closely with the Clinical Supervisor to ensure overall practice cohesiveness and the delivery of the highest level of patient care in an efficient and effective manner
  • Printing and filing photos as directed
  • Taking x-rays and mounting patient records
  • Assist in orthodontic adjustment
  • Labwork and sterilization, maintaining a presentable and sterile clinic
  • Completing assigned morning and evening duties
  • Clinical discussions with a parent/patient concerning patient cooperation (as instructed)
  • Communicate needs and problems to the Clinical Supervisor
  • Maintain a positive and professional atmosphere at all times
  • Assist the Treatment Coordinator with Internal Marketing as requested
  • Assist the Clinical Supervisor with additional duties as needed
  • Demonstrate teamwork at all times. Assist in other areas whenever available

SKILLS/ABILITIES

Interpersonal: Good interpersonal skills to maintain smooth running team environment throughout the office. Diplomacy and the ability to be objective. Setting the example for all other employees and maintaining a professional atmosphere at all times.

Writing Skills: Effective writing skills to prepare and update manuals

Verbal Skills: Effective verbal skills to coach staff and communicate to Doctor, referring dentists, parents and patients

Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications

Detail Oriented: High level of attention to detail and organization and ability to multi task

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • One to two years of related work experience
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Radiology certification
  • OSHA, HIPPA, CPR certified
  • Orthodontic Dental Assistant Certification

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $20,000.00 - $30,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 10 hour shift
