    Chief Information Officer (CIO)
    Purpose of the role

    The CIO will:

    • Manage the Informatics Directorate and its constituent departments and functions.
    • Lead and deliver on the Hospitals journey towards digital maturity and achieving HIMSS Level 7.
    • Work with the respective departmental or function managers to ensure delivery of high quality reliable services.
    • Define and deliver informatics and technological developments reflecting the strategic ambitions of the Hospital and reflective of the change agenda faced by the Irish Healthcare System.
    • Shape the scale, skills and remit of the Informatics Directorate to enable the Hospital to meet its current and future obligations and ambitions.
    • Deliver informatics and technological developments to support the hospital’s development of an Academic Health Science Centre.
    • Monitor the performance of the Informatics Directorate against its obligations to contribute to overall performance and deliver sustained improvements in both quality and productivity.
    • Be responsible for and oversee the implementation and on-going monitoring of the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) legislation.
    • Drive an on-going development plan of data analytics / business intelligence capability within the hospital, that will provide data to clinical and corporate functions that facilitates them to understand current performance and future needs; support service reconfiguration and development through strong Healthcare Planning; and provides the required data to support a strong research and audit agenda.
    • Accept overall responsibility for the hospital's ICT capacity, including developing, delivering and monitoring the prioritised Informatics roadmap for the hospital and assessing and managing the relevant risks and opportunities, including Cyber Security.
    • Engage with the Dublin Midlands Group, Health Service Executive and Department of Health as appropriate to ensure alignment between their and the hospital’s Informatics strategy;
    • Take responsibility for those areas deemed appropriate by the CEO.

    Working Relationships:

    The successful deployment of key informatics initiatives requires a positive partnership between Informatics key stakeholders. The CIO will establish key working relationships with both corporate and clinical colleagues. In particular, a well-developed working relationship with the hospital’s Clinical Medical Information Officer is vital. The CIO will also work with senior colleagues to develop information systems and business analytics support to help drive Operational, Quality and Safety improvements across the hospital
