Why does the job exist?

Community Behavioral Health Clinicians (CBHC) utilizing a trauma responsive lens to providing clinical consultation and support to youth and families involved with the Juvenile Justice Services and Protective Services . Community Behavioral Health Clinicians are responsible for collaborating with all CYFD Divisions and community providers to ensure the behavioral health needs of individuals involved with CYFD adequately met.

How does it get done?

  • CBHC's provide clinical consultation, review, of referrals for individuals aged 0-21 for Children Youth & Families Department (CYFD) on an as needed basis;
  • The targeted population for services may include: CYFD clients who have been diagnosed as severely emotionally disturbed (or for whom other behavioral health issues are known or suspected), clients being considered for intensive specialized and/or out of home placement for services, and crisis intervention;
  • Function as part of the CYFD team providing CYFD staff with clinical consultation and recommendations for all intensive, specialized, or out of home behavioral health services;
  • Are responsible for completing clinical reviews for JJS youth and ensuring documentation in the designated computer system is completed within the allotted time frames. This position also provides clinical consultation and collaboration with child Protective Services regarding specialized population to address behavioral health needs. This position does not provide direct therapy. However, direct engagement with families through interviewing and rapport building occurs to gather historical and current information that helps to drive clinical formulations;
  • Engage in training individuals regarding trauma and the use of the Child Adolescent Needs Strengths tool and other behavioral health related topics;
  • Will be on an on call rotation.

Community Behavioral Health Clinicians work with ages 0-21 identified as a targeted population involved with Juvenile Justice and Protective Services.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has experience working with at risk youth aged 0-21, deep understanding of the impact of trauma and have familiarity with the area surrounding

Minimum Qualification

Licensure in New Mexico as an LMSW, LISW, LMHC, LMFT, LPCC, LCSW, or LPAT and one (1) year of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Pre-employment criminal background check is required and conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.

The Community Behavioral Health Clinician works mainly in an office setting at a desk 70 % of the time. Other settings include community provider offices and Interviewing clients in a juvenile detention setting along with visits to out of home provider settings.
