Job Description
The Community Programs Specialist I will serve as the Volunteer Coordinator for the CASA program. This position will:
  • liaison with the court, court service unit, social services, city attorney and other community resources to ensure adequate protection and representation of children served by CASA.
  • provide assignment of volunteers to children ordered by the court to receive services. Provide supervision and ongoing training to volunteers in the program.
  • promote the CASA program in the community through presentations, public appearances, and correspondence.
  • Keep necessary records for the court.
  • Assist with state and federal grant reporting
  • maintain statistical reports and other data on program activities and achievements. Investigate and resolve complaints by clients, parents, judicial personnel, and the general public.
  • Keep informed of new developments in the juvenile justice and social work field in order to meet current trends and needs in the system.

Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires a bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience in business administration, public administration, or social work with class work in behavioral sciences or closely related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards. Also requires CPR and First Aid Certification. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working as a CASA or with children at risk of abuse and neglect. Knowledge and or experience working with the Court System and Social Services. Experience with volunteers.
