This position can be performed from any US company office location with office and remote work. This role requires domestic travel and possible international travel.

Position Description:

Lead comprehensive management of high exposure and complex construction insurance claims including but not limited to subcontractor default, builders’ risk, professional liability, general liability, surety bonds, and pollution claims. Collaborate with Construction management, Carriers, and Legal Counsel on subrogation and litigation within United States and Canada.

Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage complex and high exposure insurable and non-insurable construction claims to completion, including but not limited to subcontractor default, surety bonds, general liability, builders’ risk, professional liability, and pollution claims.
  • Build partnerships and serve as trusted advisor with client leadership, legal, and financial teams to provide guidance and communicate and interpret claim strategies that identify risk and ensure maximum recovery.
  • Provide guidance to clients on SDI project controls including replacement subcontractor strategies, recovery of stored materials, lien holder negotiations, union nonpayment guidance, and recovery through possible rights of offset if available and covered under subcontract agreements.
  • Serve as subject matter expert and resource to clients for technical Subcontractor Default Insurance (SDI) programs and other insurances.
  • Direct and deliver timely feedback to Claims team to expedite claim submissions, recoveries, and closure.
  • Lead claim review process with insurers and foster relationships and build partnerships with insurance carriers and their consultants.
  • Collaborate with Legal Counsel for associated subrogation litigation strategies and document production requests for litigation and mediation.
  • Establish anticipated losses and carrier reserves to maximize recoveries associated with insurable and non-insurable losses.
  • Oversee claim coverage for clients’ compliance to policy and protocols.
  • Design and facilitate training for technical insurance and project risk mitigation to support implementation of clients’ preferred insurance programs.
  • Develop insurable risk management training and procedures for Claims team development.
  • Manage on-site Third-Party audits of Procurement and Risk Management practices for SDI and other insurance programs across U.S. locations.
  • Initiate claim and ad hoc reporting and provide related updates through proprietary Risk Management Information System (RMIS) as required.
  • Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.


    Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s Degree from accredited degree program and minimum of 8 years of experience in construction insurance, risk management, or claims with concentration on construction industry; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

    Construction industry or related risk management experience, highly preferred

    Experience working with subcontractor default, general liability, builders’ risk, professional liability, and pollution claims

    Knowledge of insurance terminology, practices, and policies

    Strong understanding of construction contracts and insurance documents

    Knowledge of construction terminology, costs, scheduling, construction principles and techniques, and various building systems and related estimating, procurement, accounting, and cost control procedures

    Strong process and in-depth critical thinking skills with sound judgement decision-making

    Analytical and adept at processing and breaking down data into actionable information

    Supervisory and management skills, capable of directing, managing, and developing remote teams

    Self-starter with strong project management skills and capable of managing concurrent complex projects and tasks successfully to completion

    Interpersonal and teambuilding skills with ability to work across organizational levels, both internal and external

    Professional written and verbal communication, and effective presentation skills

    Proficient in computer and application navigation skills, Microsoft Office suite of applications with advanced Word and Excel skills

    Regular travel: travel modes include air, train, vehicle; and international travel as needed

The noise in the construction work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is required to work in compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and applicable laws.

    The salary range for this position is estimated to be gross $100,000.00 to $135,000.00 annualized.
