The Team
The Global Financial Crimes Compliance ("GFCC") Anti Money Laundering ("AML") Investigations Team is responsible for identification and reporting of suspicious transactions. The team investigates AML cases for Europe, Middle East & Africa ("EMEA") booked business to support decision making in regard of filing Suspicious Activity Reports to law enforcement.
The Role
Forming part of the regional AML Investigations group, this Dublin based role will join and Manage a dedicated AML Investigations Team, primarily focused on EUR activity across our EU legal entities. The team works in partnership with colleagues in UK, in-country Money Laundering Reporting Officers (MLRO's) and GFCC teams to manage the risk and investigation lifecycle, ensuring we meet internal and external requirements. The role is predominantly investigations based, including conducting research; data acquisition; compiling supporting evidence and documentation; providing SAR filing recommendations to MLRO's; and support the accurate identification and timely reporting of suspicious activity to law enforcement.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Direct management of the Team Investigators, whose role is principally to support the review of Money Laundering or Terrorist Financing related escalation across Lines of Business, MLROs, Law Enforcement and other internal and external referral sources.
- Responsibility for ongoing development of a team of AML SME's, conducting performance appraisals, quality assurance, and productivity reviews identifying improvement areas, and providing coaching as necessary.
- Responsibility and accountability for the quality, timeliness and accuracy of the team Investigations, including the presentation of cases to the weekly Financial Crime monitoring committee (FCMC).
- Conduct investigations from a multitude of sources including Systemic Monitoring, Manual Referrals, Law Enforcement and or our internal Financial Intelligence Unit
- Undertake client and company research using in-house databases and publicly available information to identify whether activity is unusual, and ultimately support the decision-making process regarding reporting to law enforcement.
- Escalate unusual activity and present cases to the EMEA Financial Crimes Monitoring Committee ("FCMC") meeting with relevant country Money Laundering Reporting Officers ("MLROs").
- Draft Suspicious Activity Reports ("SARs") for submission to law enforcement.
- Provide feedback and escalate issues identified from AML investigations into clients' due diligence documentation and risk categorisation.
- Actively develop knowledge of criminal methods and AML typologies, applying these characteristics through interrogation of transaction data to identify unusual activity.
- Participate in proactive investigative projects in support of national, regional or global priorities and initiatives, including engagement with external partners.
- Develop subject matter expertise through knowledge, research and training, leading to new investigative approaches to uncover unusual activity.
- Share knowledge and experience through briefings, presentations and written products.
- Participate in ad hoc projects and enhanced reviews, including supporting regulatory enquiries and line of business Compliance.
Education and Experience
The following would be desirable:
- Strong academic background or work achievements
- Knowledge of and interest in two or more of:
- Money Laundering
- Terrorist Financing
- Fraud or Scams
- Bribery and Corruption
- Novel and Informal Value Transfer Systems
- Correspondent Banking and Payment/Wire platforms
- Investigative skills and an analytical mind-set, including proven problem solving ability
- Experience in Anti-Money Laundering, the finance industry, financial regulation, law enforcement or intelligence analysis
- Demonstrated skills in ML/TF risk assessment, including the ability to make sound decisions, including escalation when appropriate
- Advantageous but not essential to have skills in a Central European Language (written)
- Experience in identifying and driving innovation, risk, control and efficiency improvements
