Description of Duties:
The COMSEC/Circuit Management/SONET Engineer supports the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract. The candidate will:
- Support the MDA Enterprise under the Global Network Operation Support Center (GNOSC) management providing 24x7x365 Network Operations Center support.
- Provide management, operations and maintenance of the MDA Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) network infrastructure, primarily troubleshooting and managing configurations on the network devices and circuits.
- Provide MDA COMSEC management, operations and maintenance.
- Act as the liaison to different entities at the MDA for COMSEC management.
- Manage, maintain, deploy, troubleshoot, and support TACLANES and encryption devices across the MDA infrastructure on a geographically separated environment.
- Troubleshoot and manage configurations on network devices and circuits.
- Perform network engineering, monitoring and administration functions as needed.
- Provide initial analysis and troubleshooting on issues identified with network monitoring tools and provide troubleshooting support to end users on the network/circuits as well as other general networking tasks.
- Have additional responsibilities that include: generate/provide status reports, provide network anomaly analysis, and develop engineering red lines as needed to support network maintenance actions, engineering changes/upgrades, and security vulnerabilities.
- Respond to Remedy incidents, work orders, tasks and change requests.
- Work with customers to resolve network/circuit communication issues.
- Provide Test/Event support as needed.
- Manage/monitor/maintain the MDA network/circuits utilizing Netscout, SolarWinds, Microfocus Network Node Manager, StruxureWare DataCenter Expert, and Systems Center Operations Manager, Secure CRT, etc. platforms for rapid detection, diagnose, and resolution of network performance degradations and outages.
- Execute network, circuit, and system monitoring/surveillance and the support of Cybersecurity measures.
- Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) on network/circuit service delivery of assigned MDA/IC delivered capabilities.
- Work with DISA and DREN to report and resolve network/circuit issues.
- Perform Layer 1 cable troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Be responsible for development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), training, and any other duty assigned by the Network Operations Center or Global Network Operations Security Center Manager.

This position will be an alternate to the primary COMSEC manager and will assist with COMSEC daily.
This position will be filled at Schriever SFB, Colorado Springs, CO
This position is expected to pay $118,000 - $128,000 annually; depending on experience, education, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
Basic Requirements:
Must have one of the following combinations of education and experience: HS Diploma (or GED) and 10 years of general experience; Associate’s degree and 8 years of general experience; Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of general experience; Master’s degree and 4 years of general experience
- Must have 6 years of directly related experience
- Must have a current DoD 8570 Level II Certification such as CompTIA Security+ CE or higher
- Must have an active DoD Secret Security Clearance
Desired Requirements:
- Have a Cisco CCNA Certification
- Have operating knowledge and the ability to become a Subject Matter Expert on the GEM Encryptor Manager Application, all versions
- Have experience with Cisco routers/switches, Palo Alto Firewalls, McAfee, Wildfire, and FireEye IPS/IDS, Citrix NetScaler, Blue Coat Proxy and SSL Decryptors
- Have experience with IT Services Configuration Management processes
- Have experience with Remedy and SNMP monitoring tools (e.g., Micro focus/HPOV/SolarWinds)
- Have experience with ITIL framework and ITIL-based processes, to include continual service improvement, change management, and problem investigation
- Have applicable experience with COMSEC/TACLANE, networking including Local Area Network (LAN)/Wide Area Network (WAN), Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Multicast, Unicast, OSPF, BGP routing protocols, and/or various WAN network mediums and have a familiarization with SONET networks
- Have a familiarity with monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Micro Focus ITOM, NetScout, networking (LAN/WAN) and basic troubleshooting network anomalies (command line access to network devices such as Cisco routers/switches)
- Have a familiarity with Remedy action request system
- Have a strong understanding of SONET, COMSEC, Circuit Actions and Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Tech Control procedures
