BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:
The P RX SUBSTATION & METER CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT Department of the P SUBSTATION & METER Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: Non-Exempt)
JOB FUNCTION:
Ensures construction work is setup and completed as assigned. Oversees and performs construction work utilizing blueprints, sketches and surveying equipment in connection with additions, modifications or repairs of new and existing buildings, substations, structures, and underground facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs work in accordance with the Company’s construction and safety standards and all other applicable rules and regulations: Works from blueprints, sketches, and verbal instruction to perform work assignments;
- Lays out work area using established benchmarks and reference points.
- Constructs concrete manholes, handholes, pads, foundations and walls;
underground duct lines, including excavations and trench shoring; and masonry
walls.
- Fabricates and erects concrete forms and fabricates and installs reinforcing
steel.
- Mixes and/or places concrete using approved concrete field practices, including
finishing concrete surfaces to required textures.
- Assembles, paints, and erects structural frames and equipment.
- Installs substation grounding mat.
- Constructs chain link and wooden fences, including gates and fence grounding.
- Reports all discrepancies encountered during construction.
- Operates all tools and equipment of the trade such as backhoes, excavators, bucket trucks, boom trucks, hydraulic breakers, loaders, vibratory roller, forklifts, transit, other surveying equipment, etc.
- As needed an in accordance with proper procedures, responds to and cleans up both PCB and non-PCB transformer oil releases.
- Is responsible to ensure public’s safety at work sites.
- Drives company vehicles including vans, trucks, forklifts and material handling equipment. May drive a truck carrying personnel and/or materials.
- Utilizes the computer to requisition tools, material, and equipment from storeroom and warehouse and to complete pro-card and similar transactions.
- Directs the work of personnel in lower classifications and outside contractors, such as laborer and utility positions.
- Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.
- Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
- Is required to be transported by helicopter.
- Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have or be able to satisfactorily complete Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response Act (HAZWOPER) training.
- Must be able to be transported by helicopter.
- Must be able to obtain a Medical Examiner's Certificate.
- Must possess a valid State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions as stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
- Must have or be able to obtain State of Hawaii Commercial Driver's License, Class A unrestricted within 12 months.
- Must be able to obtain Tanker Endorsement Certification
- Must have Asbestos Certification or be able to successfully complete EPA approved 40 hours asbestos training course to become Asbestos Certified.
- Must be able to obtain National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) on Digger Derrick and Knuckle Boom
- Must pass Job Performance Test
- Must pass Written Job Knowledge Test
- Graduate of Carpentry Apprentice Program OR possess a valid State of Hawaii C-6 Carpentry Framing Contractor License OR 3 years minimum as T1033, Heavy Equipment Operator and successful completion of the in-house development program including courses in Mathematics for Carpentry, Blueprint Reading, and Carpentry Fundamentals, OR 3 years minimum as T1035, Construction Utility Mechanic and successful completion of on-the-job training (6,000 hours) and successful completion of the related training as listed above.
- Must have 5 years minimum work experience in the construction field including, but not limited to constructing concrete manholes, hand-holes, pads, foundations and walls; underground duct-lines, including excavations and trench shoring; masonry walls; and blueprint reading for carpenters.
- Must be available for overtime work outside of their regular business hours.
