What does a Construction Materials Testing Technician do?
Perform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g. soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel). Communicate with project manager, engineering technicians, client and contractor’s representatives regarding the construction site and project requirements, as well as testing, observation, and inspection results. Transport material samples to the laboratory for testing and analysis. Submit digital data and observation reports to the Project Manager. Maintain equipment and work areas. Adhere to strict safety standards.
What you’re responsible for:
- Learn and perform basic testing and observations under the guidance of senior inspectors or staff professionals.
- Submit clear documentation of findings and results.
- Communicate with the Project Manager and discuss the accuracy of field observations and testing.
- Maintain assigned equipment.
- Make safety a priority on all projects. This includes performing pre-task planning prior to executing work and reporting safety issues or concerns to management.
- Maintain quality standards on all projects.
- Take responsibility for developing an understanding of the construction industry and taking your career in a unique direction!
Requirements for the job:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 6 months working experience required.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
- Basic computer literacy and ability to complete digital field reports.
- Willingness to gain field experience, develop your knowledge, and become a recognized construction professional.
Preferred Certification:
- Obtain ACI certification within 90 days of hire.
- Obtain Nuclear Density Gauge certification within 6 months of hire.
- Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
- Take the initiative to expand your knowledge, acquire a variety of specialty certifications, and earn additional compensation
