Under the supervision of the Director of Camps, this Program Specialist shall plan and implement the Specialty program area of Cooking fun, focusing on and promoting healthy living and fun with foods.
Responsibilities:
- ASSUME responsibility for the safety and welfare of all campers in the program at all times; reviewing list of camper allergies.
- PLAN and IMPLEMENT an age appropriate Cooking curriculum. Lessons should include hygiene, place setting, manners, and basic cooking knowledge: how to follow a recipe, and cleaning of all supplies after each use.
- SHOP and order necessary ingredients for all recipes in a timely matter. Keep an organized shopping list for lesson plans. Follow an assigned food supply budget.
- ASSURE there are fun and educational components, relating to teaching our YMCA core values.
- MAINTAIN the cleanliness of kitchen area, all cooking utensils, as well as the space used for program.
- MANAGE a Garden Project, working closely with volunteers, staff and campers assigned to project.
- PROMOTES positive values and Healthy Living in campers through the use of effective group work techniques.
- SET UP kitchen area prior to camp opening. Maintain all supplies and equipment in the utmost cleanliness throughout the summer.
- INVENTORY and STORE equipment and supplies at end of summer.
- ACTS in accordance with YMCA philosophy and character development values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility; and policies and procedures (as stated in the Camp Arrowhead staff manual) while on the job.
- Helps where senior staff needs.
- ADHERE to policies related to boundaries with youth. Complete required abuse risk management training. Follow mandated abuse reporting procedures, including reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.

Qualifications:
The employee must be 21 years of age and have completed high school, at least 30 college credits, and preferably holds a degree teaching. The specialist must also be creative and be able to plan according to specific camp theme ideas. All employees must have skills in instructing children, group work, and program planning and implementation, as well as enjoy the outdoor environment.

The employee must have the ability to lead, plan, and participate in a range of activities in an outdoor environment and setting; and the ability to walk, stand, lift, bend and stretch.
