Role purpose

We are looking for a Data Analyst with a knowledge of databases, data warehousing, data exploration and discovery, and data reporting to join our Data Team. This is a role which will require expertise in the full software development lifecycle from concept, analysis and design through to testing and deployment. It involves the methodical investigation, analysis, review, documentation and implementation of business change. The Data Analyst will carry out requirements elicitation, requirements definition and support data model design for improving data processes, systems and business intelligence capability as part of a team that works on business intelligence applications, the Enterprise Data Warehouse and the Operational Data Store.

Key Accountabilities :
  • Conduct discovery and analysis on databases and datasets, uncovering the business rules and logic and interpreting these into requirements for data developers
  • Work with business users to translate needs into data requirements for data developers and / or data visualisations, using appropriate techniques to capture as-is and to-be solutions.
  • Make a recommendation for action against the analysis of requirements, problems, data and strategic opportunities, seeking effective business solutions
  • Define Epics, User Stories and functional specifications for technical scope and deliveries in line with schedule, business and budget objectives
  • Effectively facilitate meetings, demonstrations, brainstorming sessions with the team.
  • Conduct requirements gathering workshops producing quality documentation with formal stakeholder agreement on scope/requirements, and manage any follow –up activities.
  • Navigate any conflicts, have the ability to negotiate and distinguish solution ideas from business needs; always follow up on activities
  • Assist in business Change Management activities including solution adoption and training assisting the user community with UAT, transition support and change planning
  • Drive deliverables to completion within timelines ensuring collaboration and effective communication with all stakeholders.
  • Validate proposed solutions and ensure they are fit for business purpose.
  • Espouse the Vhi culture, values and behaviours and support the goals and objectives.
  • Assist in the management of Product Backlogs in Agile Teams
  • Carry out work of an equal or lower grade
Skills and Abilities :
Technical
  • Ability to navigate databases and datasets with knowledge of data warehousing
  • Experienced in using computer packages for data analysis, process modelling and flowcharting.
  • Ability to work closely with the technical developers when designing overall solution
  • Requirements elicitation and documentation with clear, well written outputs.
  • Effective at translating business requirements to epics, functional specifications and user stories.
  • Can create ‘As is/To be’ process and flow diagram creation

Interpersonal
  • Articulate, strong communicator, active listener with an ability to negotiate and influence at all levels.
  • Is strong at managing stakeholders of all levels, and is an experienced facilitator with an ability to challenge when required
  • Demonstrates a growth mindset, is someone who embraces challenges, able to give and receive feedback and act on it
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills with excellent attention to detail and ability to reprioritise effectively when require
  • Demonstrates alignment with the Vhi values.
Education and knowledge
  • Relevant third level qualification and/or business analyst professional qualification
  • Ability to write simple SQL statements, navigate databases and use queries during analysis and design phase.
  • Knowledge of database concepts (table structures and dependences, Reference Data) and visualisation/ reporting tools E.g. Tableau, Microstrategy
  • Knowledge of data classification and data cataloging tools desirable
  • Knowledge of cloud data warehousing, AWS or similar cloud technologies desirable
  • Knowledge of real-time data warehousing and streaming technologies ( such as Kafka) desirable
Experience
  • Successful track record as data analyst with minimum 3 plus years’ experience
  • Have extensive experience of project delivery methods (Agile/Waterfall SDLC) to provide business and technical solutions.
  • Proven experience of roles in process change and IT change projects involving feasibility studies, business analysis, requirements definition, implementation and business readiness.
