DATABASE TECHNICIAN

Disability Resource Program (DRP)

Classification: Class 2206 / Non-Exempt / Full-Time / Benefited / Represented / Contract

Anticipated Hiring Range: $30.00 - $32.78/hour

THE DEPARTMENT

The mission of the Disability Resource Program (DRP) is to ensure that all students with documented disabilities at UC Hastings Law receive comprehensive disability-related services in the form of accommodations, academic adjustments, and auxiliary services. Consistent with the

Americans with Disabilities Act (as amended in 2008), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and related state laws, DRP supports the College in its efforts to provide equal access to all its programs and activities.

DRP offers workshops and consultations to the faculty, administration, the Office of Academic Skills Instruction and Support, the Legal Educational Opportunity Program, the Legal Research and Writing department, the Career Development Office, Student Services, Media Services, Information Technology, the Registrar's Office, Faculty Support, Enrollment Services, and the Tower housing management on such topics as Universal Design for Learning, disability law in higher education, access technology, and executive functioning and cognitive diversity. We work cross-departmentally to ensure that Hastings remains an inclusive and accessible institutions for qualified students with disabilities, consistent not only with federal and state laws but with our own mission and values.

THE ROLE and RESPONSIBILITIES

DRP seeks a Database Technician to provide technical support in the efficient use of technology solutions within the department. Primary duties and responsibilities, all within the department of DRP, consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Serve as the lead on software and data management systems, such as Colleague Ellucian and other higher education technology systems on behalf of DRP. This includes technical knowledge and efficient use of such systems, accurate maintenance of student and departmental records, support for the implementation of new systems, assisting in the analysis of data, liaising and collaborating with other departments, training DRP staff and others as necessary;
  • Serve as the lead on website design and content updates;
  • Serve as the lead on electronic communications, e.g., communicating awareness of DRP, disability-related facts/info/awareness, student accomplishments, outcomes;
  • Create and implement online forms and intake systems, using Qualtrics or other survey software;
  • Assess and update current use of assistive technology systems;
  • Evaluate department's tech programs for efficiency and recommend opportunities to enhance systems;
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure smooth operation of the DRP Office and compliance with requirements of such an office in higher education;
  • Implement effective data management systems to maintain DRP records and files, consistent with FERBA and other industry-standards of confidentiality;
  • Other technical and administrative duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of complex technical, IT, database, or systems administration experience, preferably in education or a legal environment. Three years of experience can substitute for the education requirement.
  • Experience in a disability services-related environment preferred.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong background in the effective use of technology, and the application of complex student information systems (and complex database info); solid database management/data query experience, preferably with Ellucian Colleague and Entrinsik Informer or other reporting software.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills to interpret data, identify trends, and anticipate impacts of technology platforms/programs on dept's objectives and practices;
  • Have excellent organizational and project management skills with attention to detail
  • High proficiency / knowledge of MS Office Excel, Word, Mail Merges,
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to listen and interact effectively with diverse constituents; to communicate technical and administrative information in verbal presentations, as well as written documents and reports.
  • Experience working collaboratively with multi-disciplined groups in achieving organizational objectives.
  • Knowledge of ADA (ADAAA) / disability accommodations / regulations, national trends and best practices, FERPA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively train others on database platforms
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently, as well as being able to contribute as a member of a team
  • Excellent customer service skills and sensitivity
  • Ability to lift / move / transport 20 lbs.
