Job description

This position will report to the Engineering Department Manager, Fixtures. This is a technical position responsible for the designing of manual and automated assembly fixtures. The designer will be responsible for creating and adhering to design specifications, and providing the Corporate Tool room designs for assembly fixtures for Summit manufacturing plants, located both domestic and internationally.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Under general supervision is responsible for the following major tasks:

• Design assembly fixtures using computer aided design stations.
• Provide technical expertise in the selection of technologies to be used in manual and automatic assembly fixtures.
• Manage and meet deadlines for design due dates.
• Develop and drive implementation of existing and new design standards.
• Identify and lead technical improvements under the departments’ continuous improvement initiative.
• Provide expertise and experienced input in the selection of materials, structural integrity, robustness of design, and cost of manufacturing to own design, as well as offering the same to other designers.
• Data management for all incoming data that requires conversion to be used in the designs of new jobs.
• Interface with internal and external designers, Manufacturing Technical Leaders, plant engineering, and other associates of the Corporate Tool room.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• The ideal candidate must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related science discipline. 3-5 years of fixture design experience working with custom made machine designs using Solidworks. Experienced in new product development with new technologies, such as vision systems, plastics welding technology, and part presence. Driving design to bring new products from development to production.
