JOB SUMMARY:

The Device Clinic Technician provides high quality patient care to the cardiac patient utilizing the trained technical process and follows all established standards of practice within the State and Federal guidelines. Provides mentorship to other personnel. Serves as a technical specialist and resource assigned to all electrophysiology devices in the Device Clinic. Serves as a resource to both staff and management in problem identification and resolution.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES / CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Checks schedules and organizes patient flow; greets patients, documents patients’ concerns, questions etc…accompanies patients to exam/procedure room and prepares patients for physical exam. Conducts initial patient interview; reviews patient medical profile, H&P and documents in EHR/manual charting as appropriate.
  • Obtains and accurately documents patient vital signs, weight and reports any abnormalities to the provider. Assists with specimen collection and testing as necessary. Documents pertinent information.
  • Performs interrogation, interpretation and programming of pacemakers and implantable Cardiovert Defibrillators (ICD) and notifies provider of results.
  • Conducts routine pacemaker follow up in clinic and through trans telephonic clinic and reprogramming as required.
  • Assists patients as necessary i.e., walking, transferring, dressing etc…
  • Provides minor treatment as directed by provider and assists providers with minor procedures.
  • Provides education as indicated after assessing the learning needs of the patient and or family
  • Documents all patient related activities by end of shift.
  • Schedules patient testing and pre certifies if insurances require.
  • Responds to all telephone messages (patient, provider offices etc.) by end of shift.
  • End of month checks for expired supplies .
  • Stocks rooms/maintains inventory or exam/procedure rooms.
  • Orders supplies as needed.
  • Cleans the exam/procedure rooms & equipment after each patient
  • Prepares exam /procedure rooms for next patient & physician needs.
  • Notifies patients of test results (per provider instruction) and follow up.
  • Attends scheduled staff meetings, in service education opportunities, and participates in continuing education programs.
  • Formulates and maintains effective working relationships with employees and other managers of the health care team.
  • Respects and protects the patient’s rights to confidentiality and privacy and discloses information only for the professional purposes which are in the patient’s best interests with full consideration of their legal rights.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS/ SKILLS:

  • Highschool Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor of Science degree preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited school for Device Interrogation.
  • Maintains education in related field and keeps up to date on current changes.
  • EKG knowledge/interpretation; strong cardiac rhythm recognition skills.
  • Preferred: EMR experience; strong communication; team collaboration.
  • Minimum of 1 year of device experience; experience with interrogating and interpreting device diagnostics for major manufacturers (Medtronic, Abbott/St. Jude, Boston Scientific, Biotronik) preferred.
  • Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT), Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES), International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) Certifications (CCDS, CEPS, CDRMS); and/or eligible within two years of employment preferred.
  • Experience in related field- medicine, and medical terminology; knowledge of Pacemate preferred.
  • Excellent customer service / communication skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
