Diesel / Gas Mechanic

POSITION STATUS: Regular Full Time
Department: Bus Transit
Reports to: Director / Supervisors
Pay Range: In accordance with the City of East Chicago’s Salary Ordinance passed by the Common Council
- Complies with federal and state vehicle safety requirements.
- Good communication skills, physical strength, and stamina.
- Keeps equipment and vehicles available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules.
- Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts. Conducting repairs aiming for maximum reliability.
- Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major components, and parts.
- Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives.
- Maintains vehicle records by annotating repairs and reporting on issues.
- Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipts.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
- Enhances maintenance department by exploring new opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Undertake other duties as assigned.
Must possess a valid Class B CDL Indiana driver’s license with NO air brake restriction
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification Preferred
