Join us as our new Director of BioAg Applications Research.
In this role you will be director over three departments specializing in development and testing of new biotech solutions for sustainable agriculture. You will be the technical anchor working alongside the commercial Director who oversees the Biocontrol and Biofertility business, including early and advanced pipeline management and P&L responsibility. Your role will be key to overseeing Novozymes development of our transformational biocontrol platform based on our exciting enzyme and microbial technologies as well as developing new sustainable plant nutrition and yield solutions. Your role will entail working closely with both the global Novozymes organization and our external innovation partners to bring impactful biological solutions to drive the next generation of farming.

In BioAg we develop science-backed microbial and microbially-derived products to improve and protect crop production in a sustainable way. The BioAg Applied Research area is a global R&D organization of ~30 researchers working according to an Agile model, housed in three departments with managers reporting up to this Director. Through the design and execution of in planta assays from bench to greenhouse to field, the area’s work advances products through our stage-gate process or provides our commercial team with insightful information that supports regional sales opportunities. This position will ensure engaged, high-performing researchers produce solid science that enables impactful biological solutions for current and future farming.

In this role you’ll make an impact by:
  • Leading a global high-caliber competence center in applied biotechnology and agricultural research conducting early to late-stage biological product development, levering a large corporate biotech toolbox and organization
  • Fostering an ambitious innovation culture to help unlock the full potential of biological solutions in agriculture
  • Being accountable for major R&D projects of a technically complicated nature, contributing critical input and maintaining rigorous scientific standards in analysis of research problems and technical plans
  • Working with your marketing counterpart in overseeing the Biocontrol and Biofertility pipeline and business strategy
  • Driving innovation in a dynamic biotech environment, pulling on highly skilled commercial and technical expertise from different functions to bring impactful solutions to the market for the benefit of farmers throughout the world
  • Establishing and maintaining strong and productive professional relationships with customers, start-ups, and academia with the aim of identifying leading edge technology and initiating early and late stage partnerships relevant to the portfolio
  • Being part of a global leadership team responsible for the broader innovation pipeline and organizational development in applied biotech for all of Novozymes’ industrial and agricultural markets

Potentially relevant experience:
  • A degree in Plant Science, Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Biology, Plant Physiology, Plant Pathology, Weed Science, Entomology, Microbiology or related biotechnology discipline with a minimum of a Ph.D. plus 11 years post-educational experience in biotechnology with the majority in the agriculture space or a Master’s degree with 17 years experience or Bachelor’s degree with 20 years experience. Exceptions apply for candidates with profile or merit of extraordinary relevance
  • Extensive leadership experience, preferably as a leader of leaders, building proficiency and managing budgets
  • Proven track record of recognizable innovation experience including the development or improvement of several products or technology areas, preferably in the disciplines of biological pest control, plant nutrition, and plant growth promotion
  • Experience in driving and implementing change in an R&D organization, and preferably experience with agile ways of working and advanced data management
  • Familiarity with upstream and downstream elements of biological product development, including manufacturing scale-up, regulatory approval, intellectual property, etc.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to communicate, advise, negotiate, or influence others as well as build and maintain productive working relationships in both academic and commercial settings
  • Ability to multi-task, risk assess, bring creativity to problem-solving, and pivot direction when needed
  • Experience working internationally and ability to travel both domestically and internationally
  • Ability to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now and in the future.
