The Grassroot Institute of Hawaii is a nonprofit policy research organization that seeks to educate people about the values of individual liberty, economic freedom and accountable government.

The Grassroot Institute of Hawaii is seeking to hire a director of communications to help promote its mission through both internal and external communications, including member communications, marketing communications, media relations and publications. This position reports to the chief executive officer or an executive he designates.

Essential duties and responsibilities

• Develop and implement communications strategies to advance the institute’s mission, growth, and member service, marketing strategies to potential members, and increased exposure of GRIH’s mission, benefits, and projects.
• Manage the institute’s external and member communications, including social media, advertising, marketing campaigns, published newsletters, membership surveys, regular member emails, etc.
• Cultivate, promote and safeguard the institute’s unique brand and serve as a spokesperson.
• Direct the institute’s media relations strategy, maintain and grow the list of media contacts and increase publication distribution.
• Draft commentaries and ensure they are placed in respected print, broadcast and online media.
• Secure print, broadcast and online coverage for the institute’s activities, members and staff.
• Craft and post news releases and staff statements.
• Update the institute’s websites and marketing materials, as needed.
• Identify opportunities to increase media exposure for the institute.
• Build and maintain relationships with allies and partners.
• Participate in speaking engagements to showcase the work and mission of the institute, as needed.
• Track, evaluate and report all communications activities for internal and external reporting.
• Represent the institute state and national conferences, as needed.
• Participate in staff calls and leadership team meetings.
• Perform other duties as needed to fulfill the mission of the organization.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
