SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Director of Eaton’s Explorers will assist in performing specialized instruction and program supervision for the Eaton Area Park & Recreation District’s State-Licensed day camp. This includes coordination of staff and participants in daily activities. Must be the point of contact for all childcare licensing requirements, including county and state requirements. Must confirm all licensing requirements for campers and staff members. The Director will work in collaboration with the Recreation Division Supervisor and Recreation Specialists for all administrative procedures throughout the Spring, Summer, and Fall annually. The Director will work directly with the Recreation Specialists for Special Interests for all administrative procedures throughout the Spring and Summer. The Director will oversee collaborating and planning most of the programming for Eaton’s Explorers. The Director must be 21+ years of age.

Jan-Mar (6hr/week); Spring Break Camp (40hr/week); April (10hr/week); May – August 15 (40hr/week – includes Summer Camp and Training); mid-October-mid-Nov (6hr/ week); mid-end November (40hr/week – includes Thanksgiving break mini-camp – subject to change).
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Perform specialized instruction and program supervision for State-Licensed programs including coordination of staff and participants in daily activities.
· Oversees Camp Counselors daily tasks, assigns duties, evaluates, and gives valuable feedback daily.
· Knowledge of latest trends and techniques. Evaluates program effectiveness and suggests new activities or techniques.
· Plans program curriculum and conducts individualized or group instruction in areas ofexpertise.
· May use knowledge and expertise to modify class activities for various participant skill levels.
· Sets up and takes down required program equipment.
· May serve as opening or closing staff members for State-Licensed program.
· Remains composed and makes sound judgements in emergency or non-emergency situation.
· Responds to emergency situations, administers first aid, CPR, or other medical attention as needed, and completes incident reports. MUST be certified to administer medication per State Licensing regulations.
· Provides exceptional guest service to all participants. Responds to information requests, comments, and complaints from participants.
· Maintains frequent communications with other staff within the Community Center and Division and reports any issues or concerns with inventory, facility conditions, policies, and incidents to supervisory staff as needed.
· Ensures the safety of guests and program participants by enforcing all rules and policies with staff and guests.
· Conducts and attends a variety of training seminars, staff meetings, clinics, and community meetings.
· Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment; distribute supplies and equipment; assist with ordering supplies and equipment for recreation programs.
· Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education andExperience:
· Two years’ experience in leadership role with similar programming; degree in Elementary Education or Recreation desirable.
· Must be 21 years of age.
· Must have three months of verifiable education or training in work with school-age children in such areas as recreation, education, scouting or 4-H; and must have completed at least one of the following qualifications:
o A four (4) year college degree with a major such as recreation, outdoor education, education with a specialist in art, elementary or early childhood education, or a subject in the human service field; or
o Two years of college training and six (6) months (910) hours of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience, since attaining the age of eighteen (18) in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children; or
o Three years (5460 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time paid or volunteer, experience and one of the following qualifications:
§ Complete six semester hours, or nine quarter hours in course work from a regionally accredited college or university; or
§ 40 clock hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children and the department- approved courses in injury prevention, and playground safety for School-Aged Child Care Centers within the first nine months of employment.
· Must successfully pass all required employment screens that may include but not be limited to:
o Drug screen

· Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
o Valid vehicle operator’s license and satisfactory driving record
o First Aid, CPR, and AED certification or the ability to obtain within 45 days of hire.
o Director Certification or the ability to obtain within 45 days of hire.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
· Knowledge of the current principles, practices, teaching methods, and techniques specific to planning and teaching the program of instruction in areas of expertise.
· Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, ordinances, and policies, specifically State licensing requirements.
· Ability to effectively create, organize, and present camp curriculum.
· Ability to adapt activities appropriate for a wide variety of participant skill levels.
· Demonstrate time management skills by beginning and completing assigned shifts and/or utilizing program time effectively.
· Ability to work under stressful situations and conditions; ability to stay calm; must have excellent conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to maintain certifications.
· Ability to plan and organize safe and effective class curriculum and activities. Ability to effectively present class curriculum, demonstrate proper techniques, and respond to questions specific to the program of instruction.
· Ability to provide outstanding customer service in a fast paced, chaotic environment to a diverse guest population.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, peers, and EAPRD / EACC staff. Including the ability to follow directions and demonstrate professional behavior.
· Ability to communicate, follow and enforce all rules, regulations, and policies.
· Ability to recognize, report, and/or rectify safety hazards and sanitation issues and to notify supervisors.
· Ability to complete and maintain well organized daily records, logs, and incident reports.
· Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently. Bilingual skills are desired, not required.
· Ability to operate all assigned equipment properly and safely; ability to set up, maintain, and tear down activity related equipment.
· Knowledge or of ability to learn Active Network POS registration system to maintain necessary records and scheduling.
· Demonstrated skill in the use of standard office equipment, computers, and various application programs including recreation related specialty software applications.
