Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
The College of Arts & Sciences’ Office for Diversity Equity and inclusion (CAS-DEI) invites applications for the inaugural position of Associate Director for Education & Practice. Reporting to the Vice Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, this position will create educational opportunities intended to enhance cultural competence and engagement.

Working collaboratively with the Vice Dean, college, and campus stakeholders, the Associate Director will reimagine existing educational programs, and spearhead the development of a new college-wide DEI train-the-trainer program. The Associate Director will foster collaborative relationships with the USC Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Office for Professional Development; Office for Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA); CAS Human Resources, and other university partners.

The Associate Director will serve as the lead thought partner and conduit for innovation in practical education and sustainable skill development. The position will provide consultation and support to CAS faculty, staff, and students in the development and implementation of initiatives that advance DEI education and practice.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree and three years of work experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) affirmative action, or multicultural education and programming, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience. An equivelency may include a Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience, or an Associate’s degree and 7 years of relevant experience. Candidates should have experience in conceptualizing, organizing, and coordinating events or programs. Candidate must have a demonstrated understanding of fundamental (DEI) subject areas such as, but not limited to; implicit bias, microaggressions, allyship, and accessibility, as evidenced through academic coursework, scholarly publications, relevant programming or community engagement.

Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in delivering trainings, consultations, or educational seminars pertaining to DEI subject areas, including, but not limited to; disability justice, feminism, queer theory, privilege, protected classes (Title IX), battle fatigue, and other related areas. Completion of a DEI certificate course is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
To be successful in this position, the incumbent will need to possess demonstrated expertise in fundamental precepts within the diversity, equity and inclusion discipline such as allyship, implicit bias, accessibility, micro-aggressions, cultural competence and/or other related areas; possess the ability to deliver impactful presentation materials tailored to the needs of a wide range of audiences; demonstrate the ability to apply appropriate assessment tools to evaluate the outcome of the curriculum; demonstrated ability to navigate complex, nuanced, sensitive topics with tact and diplomacy; demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in professional settings; demonstrated ability to develop ongoing working relationships with diverse communities; demonstrated experience synthesizing information to produce written reports, website content, presentations and other educational materials for a variety of audiences. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment working both independently and as part of a team, have strong written and verbal communication skills, and display a high level of initiative and attentiveness to detail. It is of vital importance that candidates possess and seek to further their skills, cultural competency, and sensitivity in interactions with diverse constituencies across various ethnic, social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds and demonstrate strong commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence in higher education.
