Job Title: Director of Youth Development Programs
Status: Full Time Exempt
Reports to: Senior Director
Position Summary:
The Director of Youth Development Programs is the leader in the design, programming and administration of childcare and camp programs at the MDI YMCA. The director initiates and manages the hiring, onboarding and training, supervising, and managing of year-round and seasonal childcare and camp staff. The director will work closely with the senior leadership team in day to day and long term planning and managing, including operating budget (revenue and expense) controls, projections, and goals. The director will manage preschool enrichment programs and help with youth sports in collaboration with senior staff and the Manager of Youth Development Programs(currently Jennifer Britz).
Essential Functions:
Current programs include the preschool and afterschool programs, No School Care, Vacation Camps and Summer Camp.
Leads in the design, programming and administration of childcare programs at the MDI YMCA.
Knowledge and experience with childcare programming, curriculum planning, Maine state child law and regulation, and best practice in child development.
Plan and implement program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with the Y’s values.
Adhere to program standards including safety.
Follow Y policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
Work closely, and as lead with the State of Maine licensing representative.
2. The director manages childcare staff.
Initiates and oversees the hiring, onboarding and training, supervising, and managing of year-round and seasonal childcare staff.
Informal networking and/or formal collaborations with the Down East Family Y childcare staff and/or local childcare providers and elementary schools.
Performs performance review for all childcare staff.
3.The director will work closely with the senior leadership team in day to day and long term planning and managing, including operating budget (revenue and expense) controls, projections, and goals.
Prepare annual operating budget and revenue and expense forecasts as required, working closely with Operations Director and Chief Executive Officer.
Participate in staff meetings, fundraisers, parent meetings, and more as need be.
Actively participate in training as required and needed.
Healthy snack offerings, both for the Afterschool Program and helping all the children/people who come to the Y and need a healthy snack in the lobby
4. The director will manage preschool enrichment programs and help with youth sports in collaboration with senior staff and the Manager of Youth Development Programs.
Oversees preschool enrichment programs of Open Gym, sport specific programs and other new ideas.
5. Perform other duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications
1) Three or more years’ experience (or closely related) in childcare or related programs.
2) Skills in supervision, budget management and project management.
3) CPR, First Aid and AED Certifications required within 30 days of employment.
4) Ability and current license to drive.
5) Familiarity with computing technology.
6) Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

COVID-19 considerations:
All employees, members and guests of the Y are continuing to wear masks inside the facility. As this position is mainly to support outdoor youth programs, it is unlikely masks will be worn outside the facility.
