SUPERVISOR: Center Director
LOCATION: Anacortes Discovery Center
STATUS: Full-time, Non-Exempt
WAGE: Starting Range of $22.25 - 26.44/hr DOQ/DOE

General Description:
Under the supervision of the Center Director, the Discovery Center Assistant Director is responsible for the success of the assigned Clubhouse including supporting the oversight of daily operations. Operational leadership includes supporting programs and service delivery, supervision and training of staff, facilities management, membership administration, and compliance with safety regulations.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Skagit County is the premier provider of Youth Development Programs in our area through targeted outreach initiatives, strategic partnerships with schools and local governments, and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
We are looking for a dynamic, passionate individual to join our team and join us in securing Great Futures for all youth in Skagit County, and are excited to be expanding our services to younger children and new families in our communities. This new program endeavor is envisioned to go beyond simply providing childcare needs. Successful candidates will bring innovative ideas to further the development and enrichment of children ages 3-5, to ensure they are not only prepared to enter Kindergarten, but do so with a strong foundational knowledge of healthy habits, what it means to have good character, demonstrate good citizenship, and the tools to reach Academic Success as a lifelong learner and leader in the community.
The Discovery Center will develop and test new methods for early childhood education and learning, and actively engage children attending for the entirety of the day. The successful candidate will not only embrace this, but take a leadership role in establishing a strong foundation and curriculum that can be duplicated in other future Discovery Centers. As such, career growth potential is strong. A strong interest in Lego, Music/Arts/Dance, and Technology is encouraged.
Qualifications:
- Be at least twenty-three (23) years old;
- 45 college quarter credits in Early Childhood Education core competencies, or the ability to demonstrate recent approval by DCYF of a provided waiver
- Possess an Early Childhood Education state certification or equivalent as approved and verified in the electronic workforce registry (MERIT)
- Have two years of experience as a teacher of children in any age group enrolled in the early learning program
- MERIT Portable Background Check upon hire possibly with Fingerprinting, if required, or the ability to complete a MERIT Portable Background Check with fingerprinting
- TB Test (must provide documentation within the last 12 months)
- Basic Stars Training
- Current on supplemental training requirements per DCYF requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- A passion for serving youth and families, and a desire to push the boundaries of early learning in innovative and effective ways
- Ability to assist in recruiting, training, supervising, and motivating staff.
- Ability to deal effectively with youth members, including discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to work with parents and young people.
- Strong computer skills are required, including an ability to utilize multiple reporting platforms and software applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Enthusiasm for mission and motivation to learn new skills on the job.
- Must be able to lift and move objects as heavy as 50 lbs.
- Ability to establish and meet deadlines and goals.
- Bilingual/literate candidates; $.50/hr for Spanish-speaking and willing to translate and/or $.75/hr for Spanish-literate and willing to translate written materials
Essential Job Functions:
- Works to support the increase of overall organizational capacity through various methods that reflect organizational policies and procedures, strategies and goals, and values.
- Assists with ensuring full compliance with all policies, procedures and Board direction; maintains expense controls within established guidelines; ensures proper documentation and records are maintained.
- Establish appropriate programs, activities, and services that prepare youth for success and the important transition to school, and that create a Club environment that facilitates the achievement of designated outcomes.
- Provide a healthy and safe environment, ensuring that all facilities, equipment, and supplies are maintained.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with parents, community leaders, and organizations.
- Support and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of programs, services, and activities within the Club and the community.
- Provide leadership in the implementation and strategic planning of the Discovery Center’s continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrate ownership and pride in the creation and execution of Club culture through leadership and inspiration.
- Builds strong Collaborative Relationships internally and externally.
- Incorporate organizational Values of Fun, Respect, Integrity, Community, and Acceptance into all practices.
- Be on-site for the daily operation of the early learning program fifty percent or more of weekly operating hours up to forty hours per week
- Other duties as assigned.
