Well established continually growing company seeks to expand! Work in a dynamic, outdoor environment to help us reclaim, repair, and restore land for our local native plants!
Summary: Perform extensive fieldwork with a diverse crew of awesome people. Work may sometimes take place on potentially difficult terrain and during adverse weather conditions. Work is highly varied, but will include brush or tree clearing and site preparation activities; the installation of plants, seed and erosion control materials; stewardship activities including mowing, hand pulling, herbicide application, and prescribed fire. Work requires the handling of herbicides, fuels and other products. Our work types/tasks change more often than the seasons! Full-time, year-round.
Hours: 8 to 10 hours a day, Monday through Friday and occasionally Saturday and/or Sunday during prescribed fire season. Please note, staffing, weather conditions, and operational demands often need variations in start and end times as well as the total hours that may be scheduled each day and week.
Travel: Occasional overnight stays in distant locations may be requested, but will almost never be required. Travel, lodging, and meal stipends are provided for any and all overnight travel.
Daily Responsibilities
- Represent the Pizzo Group by keeping a professional, clean, quality, and safe workspace during your duties and interaction with others
- Maintain issued clothing, equipment, and tools in good working order
- Communicate with Crew leader to report project status, updates, issues, or concerns
- Report lost, damaged or malfunctioning equipment/tools to your Crew Leader
- Accurately keep track of your daily material usage and report to your Crew Leader at the end of the day
- Prepare vehicles, trailers, equipment, tools, and materials/supplies so that they are cleaned, repaired, re-stocked, organized and ready for the next day's operation
- Perform other duties as assigned
Periodic Responsibilities
- Attend required training sessions, certification programs and participate in self-study as needed
- Operate and maintain vehicles, trailers and/or other machinery as directed
Qualifications
- Proficient in the English language both written and spoken
- Basic mathematical skill functions and units of measurement comprehension
- Valid driver’s license
Certifications (All training is provided by Pizzo & Associates within the first year of employment)
- State of Illinois Pesticide Operators License
- Current in First Aid/CPR
- I100/S130/S190 firefighter certification
Expected Physical Demands
- Heavy work is required occasionally (100 lbs.) Medium work frequently (50lbs.) Light work constantly (25lbs.)
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, push and pull
- Meet the physical and mental demands of working seasonal long hours, repetitive lifting, and prioritizing multiple tasks during peak workload times
Expected Work Conditions
- Ability to work near moving equipment, in/outside, in all‐ weather conditions.
- Work conditions may include dust, fumes, moderate to loud noise levels, uneven surfaces, various heights, and vibrations of equipment
- Exposure to non-weather-related temperatures or conditions, wildfire, overhead of falling hazards in a woodland, poisonous plants and/or wildlife and contact to water or other liquids and often in gorgeous dynamic landscapes
