Reports To: Adolescent Program Manager

POSITION SUMMARY: As a member of the Imagine team, the Educator acts as a liaison between schools and treatment programming to ensure the educational needs of our clients are met. The Educator will provide a daily and ongoing instructional program that will provide the best possible educational experience. This person will prepare clients to reintegrate to their schooling environment once behavioral and mental health treatment is concluded. The Educator plays an essential role in helping clients develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continued education according to the guidelines outlined in each student’s documented educational needs.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Develop, provide, and maintain required schooling needs and curriculum
  • Facilitate classroom studies daily
  • Follow modifications and accommodations as specified in Individual Education Plans (IEPs) as applicable
  • Assist with behavioral crisis intervention
  • Advocate for client needs when transitioning back to school
  • Budget class time effectively
  • Establish and communicate classroom rules, and encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
  • Ensure availability to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Collaborate with other members of staff in planning educational goals, curriculum, and objectives
  • Evaluate student progress on a regular basis and communicate findings as appropriate
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records in accordance with applicable federal and state laws, administrative rules, and company policy
  • Consult with the multidisciplinary treatment team to provide quality client care
  • Provide orientation and education to clients, families and others to aid in the therapeutic process
  • Monitor clients on an ongoing basis to continually assess needs and facilitate treatment and interventions
  • Actively participate as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team and maintain effective working relationships with employees and peers
  • Maintain professional boundaries with clients at all times
  • Oversee and participate in the quality assurance and compliance activities of the facility
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with established policies and procedures and standards of care
  • Other clinically appropriate services and special projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION:

  • Current State Teacher Certification with Generalist K/12 endorsement (special education)
  • Highly Qualified Teacher per the standard set forth by public schooling standards
  • Strong background in teaching methods, developmentally appropriate classroom activities, and effective classroom management
  • Bachelor degree or commensurate experience required
  • Experience teaching or student teaching at appropriate grade level
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
  • Knowledge of the diverse needs of children with disabilities and appropriate special education classroom practices
  • The ability to work with students with emotional, physical, and mental disabilities
  • Ability to instruct students one-on-one and small group situations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject matter and effective teaching methods
  • Must hold strong personal boundaries and able to build rapport with clients
  • Must understand and adhere to the ethical standards of the respective licensure governing board as applicable

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
  • Maintain Teacher Certification with Generalist K/12 endorsement (special education)
  • Must maintain current nationally accredited CPR/First Aid/AED certification
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and safe driving record

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work environment is an adolescent outpatient treatment facility. Exposure to emotionally impaired patients will be frequent. Stress ranges from low to high depending on the situation
  • Must have the reasonable ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, feel, reach, balance, stoop, kneel, talk, and hear. Must be reasonably capable of lifting fifteen (15) pounds
  • Indoor treatment setting and office environment
  • Use of a mouse and keyboard
  • Must be able to safely operate a vehicle

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Completion of a tuberculin screening during first week of employment
  • Completion of a pre-employment drug screening, post-accident and upon reasonable suspicion of use
  • Completion of new employee orientation and required paperwork prior to reporting to work, including acknowledgment of all Company policies
  • Demonstrated computer literacy
  • Completion of CPR/First Aid Training within first 90 days of employment
  • Attendance at all mandatory staff development and training
  • Completion of background and professional reference checks
  • Completion of a Motor Vehicle Record check
