Job Description Summary
The EHS Lead for the CMC Development Lab will have dual responsibilities. The role will resource day to day EHS activities and programs for Evendale’s CMC Development Lab, representing a combination of Supply Chain and Engineering activities. This person will be required to work cross-functionally with the CMC Engineering and Supply Chain Teams, in addition to the Evendale Site Facilities, Maintenance, EHS and Union personnel to drive culture, process improvement and overall compliance within the lab.The role will also be involved in the safe startup of new processes/equipment (NPI) as new engine programs enter the lab in order to prepare for high-rate production at other Supply Chain Shops (Huntsville, Asheville, etc.). Over the next 3 – 5 years, a wide variety of new processes and equipment insertions will take place as new novel manufacturing, maturation, and industrialization work continues. During each step of these activities, detailed processes are required to manage the risk from initial design through installation at down-stream facilities.
Job Description
Resource Day-to-Day EHS Activities
The EHS Lead for the Development Lab will be a resource to the Evendale Site EHS Team in supporting day-to-day EHS activities. The position will be a resource for the following activities:
- Participate in audits, conduct worker observations, and complete risk assessments across the labs to assess compliance and effectiveness of area EHS programs. Manage to closure any improvement opportunities identified through the effectiveness assessment.
- Work closely with operations to drive implementation of programs to ensure all federal, state, and local EHS regulatory and GE management system requirements are met.
- Develop, deliver, and assess effectiveness of safety training, metrics/trends, meetings, communication, and culture.
- Ability to develop, manage and assess effectiveness of safety programs to include: Confined Space Entry, Lockout/Tagout, Line Break, Elevated Work, Hot Work, PPE, Electrical Safety, etc.
- Assist with accident investigations, determine root cause, and determine and implement safety measures which prevent future incidents
- Develop detailed procedures across the lab for all routine activities and a work process for non-routine work.
- Assess lab activities through the lens of the EHS 2.0 framework. Drive improvements based on gaps and associated risk.
Growth & Development Support
The EHS Lead for the Development Lab will support growth and development activities across the CMC business and the integration and maturation associated with the Evendale CMC Developmental Lab. The position will be a lead for the following activities:
- Develop a robust MOC process that considers all impacts during development through to installation and production. Use similar processes to capture learnings and considerations for as equipment as it is prepared for scale-up at downstream high-rate production facilities.
- Develop process to manage non-routine tasks during the development, installation, and start-up of different processes and products. Capture these activities to use during the development and planning phases of equipment preparation and installation at the down-stream facilities.
- Use CMC NPI process to document and complete EHS (risk) assessments throughout the development, installation, and start-up. Each step of the NPI process will review EHS hazards and identify opportunities for risk mitigation through additional adequate safe-guards to drive risk minimization for final installation and operation at down-stream facilities.
- Work with down-stream facilities to understand challenges with past equipment or tech insertions and physical constraints that may exist at each of the facilities.
- Develop relationships to work with up-stream GRC resources to prepare process safety information and with down-stream facilities to evaluate expected risk during new equipment installation.
- Develop complete operational procedures for lab installations and consider changes that may be needed to transfer operational procedures to the down-stream facilities. Develop a communication process to track procedural changes or upgrades at each site and verify that information is leveraged across all applicable facilities.
- Demonstrate knowledge of process safety management (PSM) 20 elements and their applicability throughout the CMC process. Use PSM as the guiding structure for design, assessment, construction, operation, control, and overall risk mitigations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree accredited college or university (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in EHS)
- Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing experience
