Elder Advocate

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or related field, required within six months of hire.

2. Understanding and knowledge of the dynamics of elder abuse, required.

3. Computer skills required.

4. Demonstrated ability to coordinate services based upon customer needs.

5. Excellent verbal/written communication skills required.

6. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, possess reliable transportation, and have ability to travel throughout the service area.

7. Must be sympathetic to the goals of Community Action.

8. Must successfully pass all agency required background checks.

WAGE

$23.50/hour plus agency fringe benefits

Fringe benefits include, but are not limited to, four-day workweek, health insurance, annual time, sick time and paid holidays

WORK LOCATION

Base in Caro

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday through Wednesday, 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Thursday, 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Flexibility in schedule may be required

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide consistent response, advocacy and support for victims of elder abuse in the counties of Huron, Lapeer, Sanilac and Tuscola.

2. Provide one-on-one supportive counseling and case management services to victims of elder abuse; develop support groups and organize victim involvement.

3. Assist with other related agency support groups and/or counseling sessions, as requested.

4. Conduct home visits, as needed.

5. Provide crisis intervention services as needed and serve on an on-call rotation schedule.

6. Guide victims of elder abuse through the criminal justice process; accompany them to court proceedings as needed.

7. Develop caseload of elder abuse victims.

8. Conduct assessments and develop service plans with victims of elder abuse, as well as assist in coordinating community resources.
