The Physician Assistant in the Emergency Department at UC Davis Medical Center provides care to adult and pediatric with a variety of emergent needs. Patient condition include: acute, chronic, medical/surgical, trauma, critical care or behavioral care. The Physician Assistant will participate and support department and hospital wide initiatives, process improvement workflows and processes.
The role of the Physician Assistant within the Department of Emergency Medical is to provide independent, advanced level Physician Assistant clinical operations to Emergency Medical patients as well as their families. This includes the management of chronic or stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, while following specialty protocols as defined by standardized procedures. This may include non-invasive or invasive procedures including surgical procedures. Including operative first assist per approved standardized procedure for your specific department. This position will have clinical responsibilities in both outpatient and in-patient environments as well as pre and post op coordination and management. Patient management decisions will be independent where appropriate after assessment of the patient and interdependent with consultation with an attending or other member of the team. PAs are expected to act as an expert resource person for health care providers including nurses, residents, and other ancillary staff.
- This position will be for 6 months from date of hire with the possibility of extension.

One year or greater recent clinical experience in Emergency Department or acute care setting

Graduation with a master’s or PhD degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program

California Licensed Physician Assistant (PA)
-
Current AHA BLS/CPR, ACLS and PALS Certifications

National certification as a physician assistant (NCCPA) within three months of hire

DEA and NPI Certificate within three months of hire
-
CITI Certification within three months of hire or prior to any involvement in Clinical Research

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-
Judgment skills to effectively meet the needs of patients

Self-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent role

Ability to cope with personal stress experienced by team members, other professionals, and caretakers

Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider

Working knowledge of HIPPA regulations

Must be able to work occasional overtime

Ability to work flexible hours

Able to lift 25 pounds, see well enough to read gauges and identify injuries

This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment
