POSITION DESCRIPTION

HGL has an immediate opening for an Environmental Engineer supporting our Albany, New York office on contracts for the US Army Corp of Engineers Huntsville and Kansas City Districts and projects across the northeastern United States. Projects involve environmental investigation and remediation, including design, implementation, and performance monitoring to reach site closure. This position requires in-office attendance.

This position will also provide broader regional opportunities to support multi-year U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Air Force environmental projects throughout the country.


The salary range for this position is $44,055 - $61,677/year depending on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities/Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

The person hired for this role will be responsible for:

  • Learning Technical Concepts.
  • Applying HGL policies and procedures to resolve routine issues.
  • Work on routine assignments including field sampling of various media, oversight of subcontractors and following QA/QC procedures.
  • Preparation of remediation work plans and project deliverables (e.g., UFP-QAPPs, FSPs, RI/FS Reports, SSHP/HASPs, technical memoranda).
  • Develop design calculations, data collection and analysis, conceptual site model development, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Provide support during investigation, planning, design, implementation, and completion (as-built) project phases.
  • Assist with preparing weekly, monthly and annual reports subject to high level control and review.
  • Ability to execute multiple projects and tasks concurrently, while adhering to schedule.

Required Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering field related to Environmental Studies such as: Civil Engineering with environmental focus, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Ability to develop technical writing skills with prior experience contributing to the preparation of technical reports, memoranda, and work plans a plus.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Coordination of field team leaders for environmental investigation and/or remediation activities. The above-described experience on a CERCLA, DoD, DOE, EPA, or RCRA project/site.
  • Possess or obtain OSHA HAZWOPER certification upon employment and be able to work in various levels of Personal Protective Equipment including an air purifying respirator, if required.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

Preferred Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT

  • Knowledge of environmental investigation sampling for various contaminants including emerging contaminants such as PFAS.
  • Preparation of engineering technical specifications.
  • EIT Certification in NY or ability to obtain within one year of employment.
